7 Claims.
This invention relates to an improvement in iishing hook cases and more particularly in cases for snelled hooks.
The object of this invention is to provide a case l so constructed that the snells are held perfectly straight and ready for use whereby injury due to bending or coiling the snells is prevented and the life of snelled hooks is prolonged.
This and other objects will appear from a consideration of the following description and of the accompanying drawing which forms a part thereof and in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a case embodying this invention, shown open;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on an enlarged scale of a portion of a closed case the section being taken longitudinally, substantially along-the line 2 2 in Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross sectional view of a closed case.
The case l0 comprises a base plate and a cover plate I2, joined by hinges I3. 'Ihe base plate comprises fiat end and central portions I5,
I6 and Il and longitudinally grooved portions I8V and |9. The base of each of portions I8 and I9 is provided with a plurality of parallel longitudinal arcuate depressions 28 forming spaced grooves (see Fig. 3).
Fastened upon each end portion I5 and i6 is a transversely extending rack 2| secured at its ends to an end portion and spaced therefrom intermediate its ends. A plurality of notches 22 are formed in the outer edge of each rack adapted to receive and hold hooks. Mounted transversely on the central portion I1 is a coil spring 23 secured in position by a wire 24 passed longitudinally therethrough.
'I'he cover plate I2 comprises end portions 25, 26, a central portion 21 and intermediate longitudinally grooved portions 28 and 29, The end and central portions are transversely curved as shown in Fig. 2 to form chambers which, when the case is closed, receive the racks 2| and spring 23. The tips 30 of the end portions are iiared outwardly so that when the case is closed they have a substantial surfaceccnta-ct with the end portions I5 and I 6 of the base plate. In the base of each of vthe intermediate portions are provided parallel longitudinally extending depressions 3| forming spaced grooves. The depressions 20 in the portions |8 and I9 of the base plate are in alignment as are the depressions 3| in the portions 28 and 29 of the cover plate and both sets are so located Vthat they register when the case is closed to form chambers each adapted to receive a snell. Suit-V (Cl. L13---32) able means are provided for locking the case closed as for example the U-shaped clips 33 pivoted on the base plate which clamp the edges of the plates together (see Fig. 3).
The snelled hooks are placed on the base plate of the case with the hooks in the notches of the racks 2| and the snells lying in the depressions 28 and held therein by being forced between coils of the spring 23. Upon closing the case the depressions 3| in the cover plate register with the depressions 28 to form closed chambers (Fig. 3) ,in which the snells are contained. Thus they are prevented from bending or coiling and are ready for use at any time.
While one embodiment of this invention has been shown and described it will be understood that the invention is not limited thereto and that other embodiments may be made without departing from the spirit and scope thereof' as set forth in the following claims.
We claim:
l. A snelled hook case comprising a base plate having a rack at one end provided with hook receiving notches, longitudinally extending depressions adapted to receive the snells and snell engaging means for holding them in the depressions, and a cover plate therefor, said cover plate having longitudinally extending depressions which, when the case is closed, register with the depressions in the base plate and form therewith closed snell containing chambers.
2. Asnelled hook case comprising a base plate having a rack at one end provided with hook receiving notches, longitudinally extending depressions adapted to receive the snells, and separated into two groups and a coiled spring fastened to the base plate in the space between the groups between the coils of which spring the snells are passed to hold them in the depressions and a cover plate therefor.
3. A snelled hook case comprising a base plate having a rack at one end provided with hook receiving notches, longitudinally extending depressions adapted to receive the snells, and separated I sions adapted to receive the snells, and separated into two groups and a coiled spring fastened to the base plate between the coils of which the snells are passed to hold them in the depressions and a cover plate therefor, said cover plate having longitudinally extended depressions, which are arranged in groups, as are the depressions in the base plate, and register therewith when the case is closed, and a curved portion intermediate the groups of depressions which covers said coiled spring when the case is closed.
5` A snelled hook case comprising a base plate having at each end transversely extending racks provided with hook receiving notches, at the center a transversely extending coiled spring and between the spring and each rack a plurality of longitudinally extending depressions adapted to receive the snells with a portion between the coils of the spring and a cover plate having at each end and at the center transversely extending curved portions and between such portions a plurality of longitudinally extending depressions, said cover plate depressions registering with the base plate depressions and the curved portions of the cover plate covering the racks and spring when the case is closed.
6. A snelled hook case comprising a plate having at each end a rack provided with hook receiving notches, said racks being parallel, a coiled spring carried by the plate, between the racks and parallel thereto adapted to hold straight the shells attached to hooks in the notches oi" the racks, depressions formed in said plate between the spring and each rack adapted to receive such snells and a cover.
7. A snelled hook case comprising a plate having at each end a rack provided with hook receiving notches, said racks being paralleled, a coiled spring carried by the plate, between the racks and parallel thereto adapted to hold straight the snells attached to hooks in the notches of the racks, depressions formed in said plate between the spring and each rack adapted to receive such snells, and a cover said cover having chambers in the end portions thereof which receive said racks to prevent inadvertent contactsv with the hooks.
