COMBINATION MOP Filed May 8, 1936 INVENTOR. 0/4 0m flaam.
ATTORNEY.
Patented Dec. 14, 1937 I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIE Application May 8, 1936, Serial No. 78,596 In Yugo-Slavia May 25, 19 35 1 Claim.
One object of this invention is the provision of a combination mop and cleaner adapted for a large variety of uses and so constructed that it may be readily wrung out with a minimum of interruption while being used.
Another object of the invention is the provision of such a mop with a readily detachable cloth and with novel means for securing the cloth on the frame of the device.
A further object of the invention is the provision of such a mop in a small size for use in washing dishes or other similar purposes, the form of the device being such that it can be collapsed to facilitate its usefulness.
The above and other objects will become apparent in the description below, in which characters of reference refer to like-named parts in the accompanying drawing.
Referring briefly to the drawing, Figure 1 is a front perspective view of the device in extended condition.
Figure 2 is a rear perspective view of the lower portion of the device.
Figure 3 is a view similar to the lower portion of Figure 1 illustrating the manner of wringing out the mop.
Figure 4 is a view illustrating the base of the device drawn up to the cloth-supporting frame, with the mop ready for use.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the cloth used with the device.
Figure 6 is a side-elevational view of a small sized modified form of the device in collapsed condition, partly in section, with the cloth removed.
Figure 7 is a front view of Figure 6 showing the device in extended condition.
Figure 8 is a cross-sectional view taken on the line 88 of Figure 6. 7
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral l0 represents a substantially cylindrical body having oppositely disposed dished-out recesses II and provided with a central channel l2 extending therethrough. A rod |3 having a handle I4 is slidably mounted in the channel l2. At its lower end, the rod I3 is shaped into the form of a triangular base |5 having the bottom member 6. A ring I1 is secured to the lower end of the body It] and supports a horizontal frame comprising a pair of diametrically opposed frame members I8 50 and Na of wire or the like, each having a pair of radial arms l9 and |9a joined by bridging end members 20. The members I8 are rigid with the ring l1. One of the end members has looped about the same and rotatably mounted thereon, a locking finger 2| having a hook 2 On its end.
This hook is adapted to register in a hole in the ring I! when the finger 2| is swung toward the ring, as shown in Figure 1.
The cloth 23 is provided with a pair of slotted openings 24 and is folded over double before se- 5 curing it on the device. The fold 25 is draped over the rear arm I 9 of the member l8. Then both halves 26 of the cloth 25 are laid together, are passed through the opening in the triangular base I5, and down around the bottom member I6. 10 The forward portion of the two halves 26 of the cloth are then drawn through the holes 24 and are looped around the rear arm |9a of the member l8a. Then the finger 2| is rotated from the position shown in broken lines in Figure 3 into 15 the position shown in full lines in Figure 1, with the ends of the half sections 26 clamped between the finger 2| and the rear arm |9a of the member l8a. In this manner the cloth 23 is firmly secured to the device. In using the device as a mop, one hand is applied to the handle l4 and the other to the recesses H on the body Hi. When it is desired to wring out the mop, the body 0 is held in one hand and the handle l4 turned with the other, which permits the cloth 23 to be twisted about the rod. l3, as shown in Figure 3.
In the form shown in Figures 6 and '7, the device comprises a barrel-like body 21 having central channel 28 passing therethrough. A rod 29 is slidably mounted in this channel and is provided with a triangular base 30 substantially similar to, but smaller than the member l5. At opposite points on its upper periphery, the body 21 is provided with right-angled cutouts 3| cut out of the cylindrical periphery of the body. A sleeve 32 is secured at right angles to the top of the rod 29, and handle members 33 and 34 are pivotally mounted on the ends of the sleeves 32. When in folded down position, as shown in Figure 6, the lower ends of the members 33 and 34 register in the cutouts 3|, and a ring 36 of rubber or 40 the like, which is movably mounted on the rod 21, is slipped over the lower ends of these members to retain the same in the cutouts 3|.
Near the base of the body 21, a frame 35 of wire or other desirable material, which is substantially similar to the frame formed by the members l8 and |8a and the ring I] of the device shown in Figure 1, is secured. This device may be used in either the collapsed position shown in Figure 6 with the cloth, not shown, wound about the frame 35 and the base 30, or it may be used in the extended position shown in Figure '7 with the cloth, not shown, similarly applied. One end of the cloth is locked on one side of the frame 35 by ring 11) of the frame 35 having also a hole (not shown) in which the hook end 22a of the finger 2 la is adapted to register. With this form of the device, it is possible to reach into corners of articles or places being mopped or washed, which would normally be inaccessible'to a mop.
It is to be noted that the device illustrated and described may be made in various sizes and in modified shapes, as well as any desirable matea rial or materials, and also other modifications'in form and structure may be made without depart ing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
I claim:
A device of the class described, comprising a substantially cylindrical body having a central axial bore extending therethrough, a rod slidably mounted in said opening and extending from both ends of said body, a handle on one end of said rod, a base member on the other end of said rod and having an opening therethrough, a frame secured to the lower end of said body and comprising a pair of oppositely extending members, each of said frame members having a pair of spaced-apart substantially radial arms united at their outer ends, said device being adapted to have a cloth trained about said frame and through said opening in said base member, means for releasably locking said cloth on said frame, said handle having a pair of side members piv- "otally mounted thereon, said side members be-- I 7 CHARLO'I'IVVE HUBER. 0
