Patented Dec. 14, 1937 UNITED." STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,102,265 OVERSHOE AND m LIKE Bert Halberstadt, New York, N. Y. Application February 25, 1937, Serial No. 127,585
1 Claim.
This invention relates to' rubbers, overshoes, galoshes, arctics and the like and has for one of its objects the provision of such footwear which is provided at the rear thereof with an unobstructed slit extending from the mouth or top thereof to the bottom heel layer so that the foot of the wearer may be easily and without undue exertion inserted into the shoe or rubber from the rear, the said slit being provided with an interlocking slide fastener so that it may be readily opened and closed.
Another object of my invention is the provision of such an article of footwear in which no closure webs or tongues are present, such tongues or webs interfering with the ready insertion of the foot into the overshoes or rubbers and causing discomfort to the wearer due to the added thickness of material at the said closure and also due to the fact that such webs usually wrinkle and exert undue pressure against the foot of the wearer.
Other objects and advantages of my invention will become apparent as the specification proceeds.
In the accompanying drawing, wherein similar reference characters are used'to'describe corresponding parts throughout the several views- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved oershoe or arctic, looking from the rear therei Fig. 2 is a rear elevation thereof and showing same in open position ready for the insertion of the foot of the wearer and Fig; 3 is a perspective view of a mans rubber made in accordance with my invention.
Referring now to the drawing in detail 5 indicates a ladys overshoe having a substantially ong neck portion 6, a vamp 1 and heel enclosure 8, the said heel enclosm'e being closed at the bottom thereof with a bottom wall or layer 9 which is preferably made of solid rubber and which may be a continuation of the sole portion 5. The body of the overshoe including the neck portion and vamp may be made of rubber or rubberized fabric.
The rear 'of the overshoe is provided with a slit III which extends from the top rear edge of the mouth opening H down to the bottom wall 9 of the heel enclosure 8. The side edges of the slit III are provided with coacting and interlocking slide fastener sections l2 operable for opening and closing by a slide member l4. By drawing the slide member I down the entire length of the rear slit II, the shoe is opened up and the foot of the wearer may be inserted from the rear with ease.
It will be seen that due to the fact that the rear of the overshoe is free and unencumbered 6 by any flaps, tongues or webs, a free and unobstructed rear opening is provided for insertion of the wearer's foot. It will further be seen that due to the absence of any such flaps and the like no wrinkling of such elements will 10 occur, such wrinkling causing discomfort to the wearer.
In Fig. 3 I have shown my invention as applied to a mans rubber. As in the form of my inventionshown in Figs. 1 and 2, the rubber l5 is provided with a slit l6 which extends the entire length of the rear portion I! from the mouth opening II to the heel 9 thereof. The said slit is provided with an interlocking slide fastener l8 operable for opening and closing by a slide I9. When drawn down, the rubber parts or separates at the slit enabling the foot of the wearer to be readily inserted therethrough with,-
out pulling and distorting the rubber. From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a rubber or overshoe which may be donned by inserting the foot from the rear and one which is not encumbered by any closure flaps or the like, such flaps hindering and partly or wholly obstructing the free insertion of the I foot of the wearer and causing discomfort to the wearer.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
An article of foot war of the character described comprising a sole, an upper having a vamp and a rear section including a heel enclosing portion, a bottom wall for the heel enclosing portion having its rear portion extended upwardly, the said vamp and rear section-being formed of soft material and the rear section being provided with an unobstructed slit extending from the top thereof to the upwardly extending rear portion of the bottom wall of the heel so that a foot of the wearer may be readily inserted from the rear and the upwardly extending portion of the bottom wall of the heel will serve to reinforce the lower end of the slit, a slide fastener section secured to each side edge of the slit, and a slide for separating .and 5 uniting said fastener sections.
