A primary object of the invention is to provide a portable building structure which may be readily assembled and disassembled from parts completely manufactured at the factory. p e
A further important improvement provided by this invention is to construct a building frame from channel members which are properly interconnected to provide the necessary studding, base support, and the like.
A further important object of the invention is to provide means for securing finishing sheets or panels to theinner and outer faces of the studs. Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the 'following description:`
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of thespecication and in which like numerals are employed.l to designate like parts throughout the same, A L
Figure 1 is a perspective View taken on the inner side of a wallstructure embodying this invention, Y
Fig.` 2 is a transverse sectional view of the structure shown in Fig, 1,
l Y Fig. 3 is a similar view to Fig. 2` butV discloses a Vdifferent arrangement of the inner 4and outer locking devices'for thenishing sheets or panels,
Fig. 4 is an exploded view of the elements which constitute the securing device for the outside finishing sheets or'panels, and
Fig. 5 is an exploded view of the elementswhich cooperate toV forni the securing device for theinterior finishing sheets or panels.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferredV embodiment of this invention, thenumeral 6 designates the base member of the frame structure for the 'building embodying this invention. This base' member is of channel formation and is constructed from a suitable gauge sheet metal. At suitable intervals, the channel base memberA 6 is intended to have mounted therein, and suitably secured thereto, studs which are formed of two channel members 1 and 8 adapted to be arranged back to back. The backs or webs of these chanmany different points as desired, or boltsm'ay be With the channel The exterior of the building is intended to be formed by a suitable number of metal sheets or panels. Thesel sheets or panels may have any desired dimensions and are intended to be provided with a porcelain enamel nish. These exterior sheets or panels are intended to be secured to the studdingso that their adjacent edges are offset with respect to the seam or joint formed between the connected webs or backs of the channel members which form the studding. In Figs. 1, 2, and 3, the exterior sheets or panels I3 and I 4 are properly associated with the studding.
Fig. 4 discloses in detail the two elements or strips which are employed for securing the exterior panels I3 and III in place and for closing the seam or gap between the adjacent edges of these panels. A channel-shaped key member I5 is connected by spot-welding, screws, or the like to oneY flange of one of the channel studding members. ,In Ythe present illustration of the invention, the back` I6 of the key I5 is secured to the flange Il of the channel member 'I. The sides I1 of this key l5 have formed on their outer edges, laterally extending flanges I8. These flanges are arranged at an acute angle with respect to the sides II. The extreme edges of these' lateral flanges, therefore, point inwardlytoward the flange II of 'the studding. It'will be noted `that the exterior sheets or panels I3 and I4 have Y their adjacent edges underlying ,theseV lateral flanges or wings I8 ofthe key strip I5. VA cover;
or cap I9 of channel formation is provided to house the key I5 andcomplete the locking device. 'I'his cover'or cap I9 is provided with inwardly directed flanges 20 which are carried by the side walls of the channel. With the exterior sheets or panels I3V and I4 positionedas shown in Figs.
1, toV 3 inclusive, with their adjacent edges underlying thewings or flanges I8 of the key strip, the. cap or cover strip I9 may be telescoped or slipped longitudinally over the key strip. The inturned flanges 20 of the cover or cap then will flatly engage the sheets or panels and will be clamped thereagainst by the flanges or wings I8 `of the key. The positioning of the cap or cover I9 on the key I5 is intended to spring the anges or wings I8 outwardly away fromthestudding, to a desired extent, for producing a tight fit between the flanges 20 of the cap and the sheets or panels. The exposed surfaces of the cap or cover I9 should be provided with a porcelain enamel finish.
The interior lnishing sheets or panels ZI and 22 are intended to be secured to the inner face of the studding by the elements disclosed in Fig.
5. These elements include a channel-shaped key strip 23 which is spot-welded to one of the flanges of one of the channel members 1 and 8. Screws or bolts also may be employed for connecting this key to the studding flange. In Fig. 2, the inner key 23 is disclosed as being secured to the second flange of the same channel 1 which carries the key of the outer locking device. In Fig. 3, the inner key 23 is disclosed as being secured to a flange on the second channel 8 or so that the inner and outer securing devices will be staggered with respect to each other. Either one of these arrangements of the locking devices may lbe adopted in accordance with the desires of the manufacturer. This key strip 23 has formed on the free edges of its side walls the two inwardly directed flanges 24. This key 23 forms a trough for the reception of the rectangularly shaped head 25 of the securing bolt 26. Any desired number of these bolts may be provided. A channeleshaped cover strip 21 is adapted to be associated with the key 23. This cover strip 21 includes a back 28 having apertures 29 'formed therein at desired intervals. Side Walls of the cover 21 have inwardly directed flanges 36 formed thereon. Each bolt 26 is provided with a nut 3|, as illustrated in Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive.
In securing the inner sheets or panels 2| and 22 to the inner face of the studding, the said sheets or panels are positioned with their adjacent edges arranged on opposite sides of the key 23. A suitable number of bolts 25 then are arranged with their heads 25 positioned within the trough of the key 23. The cover 21 is then positioned to overlie the key and the adjacent edges of the sheets or panels with the bolts 26 passing through the apertures 29. By positioning the caps 3| and tightening the same upon the bolts 26, the cover 21 is firmly secured in place and clamps the sheets or panels 2| and 22 to the inner face of the studding. The inner sheets or panels are intended to have their surfaces finished with porcelain enameh The exposed surfaces of the cover 21 also are intended to be provided with a porcelain enamel coating.
It is to be understood that horizontally extending studs may be provided wherever desired and they Will take the same form as the vertical studding disclosed herein. Similar securing devices may be mounted on such horizontal frame members.
It is to be understood that the form of this invention herein disclosed and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes may be made in the shape, size and arrangement of parts Without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described the invention, I claim:
