Another object of this invention is to produce an improved drilling apparatus of simple construction which is strong, durable and efficient.
Other objects and advantages more or less ancillary to the foregoing reside in the specific construction and aggroupmentof the elements peculiar to this structure, as will become apparent from a -more complete examination of this specification.

Referring to the drawing which illustrates a 1 preferred embodiment of the invention, I rep resents a wheel supported frame having a substantially U -shaped member pivotally con nected thereto by suitable connections I2. Pivotally secured to the cross bar I3 of the member II by a clamp l4 including a bolt I5, thereis a saddle l6 which is formed with a tapered socket adapted to rotatably receive the conical portion I8 of a center head IS. The conical portion 0 I8 is internally machined to operatively accommodate the head 20 of a bolt 2|, which extends through the saddle to receive a nut 22 by which the center head 20 and the saddle I6 may be clamped against relative rotation.
Above the conical portion Hi, the center head I9 is formed with two coaxially disposed counter-- bores 23 and 24 having a partition 25 therebetween. Within each counterbore is mounted one end of a tube 26 which extends outwardly therefrom to receive a cap 21 mounted on the outer end thereof. The tubes 26 and caps 2'! are rigidly secured to the center head 9 by through bolts 28. V
Extending upwardly from the caps 21 and the head l9, there are apertured lugs 29 having rig- 7 idly secured thereto by bolts 30, two parallel guides 3| disposed in spaced relation with each other and formed with the usual guideways 32 within which is slidably mounted. a rock drill 33.
The guides 3| and tubes 26 form together a drill guiding frame movably connected to the U- shaped member The interior of the tubes 26 is conveniently machined to accommodate the fluid actuated feeding mechanism described and shown in my United States Letters Patent No. 2,029,223, dated January 28, 1936. This mechanism includes fluid actuated pistons connected to each other by a piston rod 34 slidable through the partition '25. operatively associated with these pistons, there is anflexible element or chain 35 connected to the rock drill 33 for transmitting slidable movement thereto. This chain extends externally of the tubes 26 for longitudinal movement between the guides 3|.
Welded on each tube 26 between the guides 3|, there'is an elongated member 36 disposed longitudinally of the tubes, and formed with a U-, shaped groove or guideway 3'! within which the chain 35 is slidably guided against lateral movement. The two guides 31 are mounted in coaxial alignment with each other to form a chain guide extending substantially the full length of r the drill guiding frame. The bottom wall of the guide or of the groove 31 is adequately machined to provide a smooth surface on which the chain is free to slide.
Although the form of embodiment of the present invention as herein disclosed constitutes a preferred form, it is to be understoodthat other forms might be adapted without departing from the spirit of the invention as herein claimed.

1. A rock drill feeding and guiding mechanism comprising an elongated hollow frame, a duality of elongated members secured thereon in spaced relation with each other, a guideway within each of said members within which the drill is free to slide, a fluid actuated mechanism within said frame, a flexible member connecting said feeding mechanism to said drill for transmitting the, movement of the former to the latter, and a stationary element extending longitudinally between said elongated members, said element having a guideway within which said flexible member is free to slide.
2. A rock drillsupport including an elongated hollow member having a feeding mechanism therein connected to the drill by a flexible element, guideways on said member within which the drill is free to slide, and elongated means longitudinally between said guideways within which said flexible element is slidably guided.
3. In a rock drill support, the combination of an elongated frame having a drill slidable thereon, of a feeding mechanism for said drill including a flexible element connected to the drill for transmitting feeding motion thereto, and longitudinally disposed guiding means on said frame within which said flexible element is slidably uided.
4. In a rock drill, the combination of a support having a drill slidable thereon, of a feeding mechanism for the drill including a flexible element longitudinally of the support, and means on said support for guiding said element against lateral movement.
