1 Claim.
My invention relates to improvements in undergarment supports, and it consists of the combinations, constructions and arrangements hereinafter described and claimed.
An object of my invention is to provide an undergarment support that is designed to be attached to an undergarment such as a brassire or corselette and adjustably attached to an outer garment.
The support is so designed as to be disposed along the front portion of the-wearer's body rather than the back portion. This will permit backless evening gowns to be worn and will obviate the unsightly appearance of straps extending along the back of the wearer.
The
disposed along the body of the strap.
Two straps are secured to the front of the undergarment, and then the ,free ends of the straps are passed through lingerie straps provided in the outer garment.
The free ends of the undergarment supporting straps then are looped back upon themselves, and the complementary snaps are secured together to provide the proper length of effective strap portion between the lingerie straps and the undergarment.
I have found that the undergarment will be properly supported by the adjustable straps, and this leaves the back of the wearer entirely free of any straps.
Other objects and advantages will appear in the following specification, and the novel features of the device will be particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, in
which Figure 1 shows the undergarment straps applied in position;
Figure 2 shows a rear View of the undergarment illustrating the freedom of any straps for this portion of the garment;
Figure 3 is a front elevation of two of the devices shown operatively applied toan undergarment; and
Figure 4 is a section along the line 44 of Figure 1.
In carrying out my invention I provide a pair of straps indicated generally at I.
These straps may be made from any material desired, and can be of a length suitable to the wearer. Each strap I has a non-elastic portion 2 and an elastic portion 3. The elastic portion 3 preferably is permanently secured to an undergarment such as a brassire 4. The non-elastic portion 2 of the strap has a fastening member such as a snap 5 disposed at its outer end. The body of the portion 2 carries a plurality of complementary snaps 6. The effective length of the strap can be altered by merely attaching the snap 5 to any desired complementary snap 6.
In Figures l and 2 I show the undergarment 4 worn by a person. Figures 1 and 4 show an outer garment I provided with lingerie straps 8 attached to shoulder portions 9 of the garment. The supporting straps l are threaded through the lingerie straps 8, and then are looped back upon themselves as shown in Figure 4. The snap 5 is connected to the desired complementary snap 6 so that the strap I will act as a support between the lingerie strap 8 and the undergarment 4. In this way the undergarment will be supported properly by straps that are only disposed in front of the wearer. This obviates the necessity of providing straps that go over the shoulders and are connected to the front and back of the undergarment.
In Figure 2 the undergarment 4 is shown as a brassire and the ends H] of the brassiere are connected together by a hook and eye H, or other suitable fastening means. The back of the brassire extends low enough so as not to show when the gown I has a backless portion 12. It also will be seen that there are no straps to show from the back of the person.
I do not wish to be confined to supporting the straps l at the shoulders of the outer garment because it is obvious that the lingerie straps 8 may be attached to any portion of the outer garment as long as they are positioned above the top of the undergarment. The straps I may be adjusted as to length to accommodate them to the wearer and the type of the undergarment worn. The elastic portions 3 of the straps l permit sufficient yield during the wearing of the device.
I claim:
The combination with a backless outergarment provided with shoulder portions and lin- 50 gerie straps secured to the underside of the shoulder portions, and an undergarment, .of straps having only one of their ends secured to only the front of the undergarment, the free ends of the last-named straps being disposed 55 beneath the shoulder portions so as to be covered thereby, and passed through the lingerie straps, said undergarment supporting straps being bent back upon themselves, and. cooperating means carried by the ends of the undergarment straps and at spaced distances from the ends for adjusting the effective lengths of the straps for causing them to connect the front of the undergarment to the lingerie straps, whereby the undergarment is supported without exposing any straps on the backless portion of the outergarment.
