- My present invention in its broad aspect, has to do with containers and dispensers for use with powdery substances such as tooth powder, salt, soap, sugar, and any other type of powdery sub- 6 stance which may be carried in a container and dispensed'when desired for use. ' v4 clim., (ci. zei-sz) My present invention, in its broad aspect, has to do with containers and dispensers for use with powdery substances such as tooth powder, salt, soap, sugar, and any other type of powdery sub- 6 stance which may be carried in a container and dispensed'when desired for use. More particularlyit is my purpose to provide a cheap, simple and convenient device for storing and dispensing powdery or granular material such as tooth pow- 10 der, sodium perbcrate, or* salt, or other substance vto promote their use in mouth hygiene, and which may be attached to a wall or any upright base. Essentially my invention consists of five parts (l) a container for the substance, .(2)
l5 a dispensing device, (3) means for guiding and retaining a toothbrush or the like in proper position, (4) a wall attachment, and (5) means for catching excess powder fallingon the brush.
Among the principal advantages of my invention are briefly deiined the following; rst the powdery or granular substance such as toothpowder or sodium perborate powder, or salt or the like, is retained in the container in a clean, dry condition; second, my dispensing device includes in addition to a valved opening in the bottom of the container, a pusher and agitator so that ac'' tion is positive, certain, and the amount released on pushing the valve more or less determined; third, my device is formed of sheet metal, more or less in the nature of a stamping, whichA can be quickly and cheaply manufactured and artistically decorated, and sold at small cost and there are no parts to get out of order, or which might become dirty or unclean, or catch the clothing or clog the device; fourth, the means for positioning the brush or the like is certain and simple in construction and the brush is automatically guided to proper position for receiving its charge of powde and fifth, excess powder` is not lost or dropped to the floor but caught in a special attachment below the dispensing valve.
Other and equally important objects and advantages will be apparent as the description proceeds, but attention is called to the fact that in 45 the forms here shown right is reserved to make such changes in construction, form, shape andposition of parts as are within the scope of my inventive concept, and within the denition thereof contained in the appended claims.

The numeral (I) designates preferablyfa cylinperspective view of the pusherv drical orl oval (or it may be any other shape) sheet metal container having sides (2), a bottom (3) and a removable top (4). An attachment (5) at the back of the container is designed to mount the same on a nail, screw or hook in` a vertical base or a wall or the like. The bottom (3) of the container has an elongated slot (I) therein so that powdery or granular material (not shown) inthe container may pass out the bot tom. The under surface of the bottom carries a frame (1) which `may be soldered ror riveted thereto (see Figure 4) and which is provided with a raised part (8) having end pieces (9) constituting guides, and a center piece (I0) formed with an opening (I I) about which is a rectangular guard (I la) having an elongated, underbent side (I2) forming a trough for receiving surplus powder. At the rear of the frame (l) is a support (I3) for a spring (Il), the other end of which is received in a similar support (I5) carried on the slide member (I6).
The slide member (I6) works back and forth in the guides (9) when the device is assembled and has a slot (I1) registering with the slot (6) and opening (II) when material is to be dispensed from container (I) and out of registry therewith when the container is to be closed.
'The slide is normally held closed by the force of spring (I4). A finger piece (I8) is providedv for pushing the guide, and adjacent the slot I1) are formed upstanding curved arms (I 9) terminating in a vertically arranged, downwardly extending plate (21|) which functions as a plow or pusher since the arms (I9) and plate (20) extend through the slot (6) into the container and the open position in Figure 2, and in con- 50 nection therewith it will be noted that when the slide (I6) is pushed to open up the slot (8) the plate passes across the slot (6) and pushes mate# rial through it and down into the guard and upon a brush or the like disposed therebeneath. 5
'nie elongated side of the guard -serves two purposes (l) as a guide for the brush, and (2) as a supporting member for the trough member (22) formed by the underbent portion o! the elongated side (i2) so that surplus powder is caught and preserved for further use.
In Figure 5, I have illustrated a simplified modiiied iorm oi' my device wherein an ordinary slide valve (23) is used inthe interior oi' the container, and which is retainedin guides (24) andhasa slot (2l) registering with slot (l) and a finger button or grip extending outside the container andindicated by the numeral (28). 'I'he nger piece (2l) is pulled in the direction ofthe arrow to open the device, and outwardly ilared iiange pieces on the bottom ci the container serve asr guides and positioners for the brush, thertlange pieces being indicated by the numeral (21,) and the brush by the letter (A). A dispensing device comprising a container, avvalve device for controlling delivery of the contents irom the container, said container being provided with -an outlet opening; said valve device having a frame formed with guide members and a guard arranged to register with the outlet opening,` a slide member moving in the guides and having an opening designed to register with the outlet opening and a'closure portion arranged to close said outlet opening, a spring member arranged betweenthe frame andthe slide member f or normally holding the slide member in closing position, the guard member having an elongated `side forming a guide, andbent at its free end to form a trough for catching excess or spilled material from the container.

A dispensing device comprising a container, and a valvedevice i'or controlling delivery ofthe ranged to close said outlet opening, a resilientv` member arranged between the frameA and the slide member for normally'holding the slide member in closingposition, aside oi the'guard member being extended to form a guide, and bent at its free end to provide a trough for catching excess'or spilled material from the container.

valve device for controlling egress of the content of the container through the outlet opening. a trame carried by the container adjacent the outlet, anozzlelike guard :member ons the frame spaced from and beneath the outlet opening to receive `the dispensed contents oithe container therethrough, said frame having spaced ilanged portions, a spring controlled valve device supported on the ilanges of the frame ybetween the guard and the outlet` opening, and a part yof the-material ci the guard being extended downwardly and bent to form a troughto catch excess or spilled y material from the container.
