Description

Nov. 9, 1937. A. A. G ERL|NG TOY ANIMAL NOSE PIECE Filed May 8, 1937 INVENTOR. Arr-hur A.Ger||n 3.
ATTORNE Patented Nov. 9, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims.
This invention relates to toy animal nose-pieces and has for one of its objects the provision of a simple and inexpensive nose-piece adapted for use in connection with stuffed animal toys.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a metallic toy animal nose-piece provided with prongs which may penetrate the fabric animal covering and then be bent to prevent the pulling off of the said nose piece.
Other objects and advantages will appear as the nature of the improvements is better understood, the invention consisting substantially in the novel arrangement and correlation of parts herein fully described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein similar reference characters are used to describe corresponding parts throughout the several views, and then finally pointed out and specifically defined and indicated in the appended claims.
,, The disclosure made the basis of exemplifying the present inventive concept suggests a practical embodiment thereof, but the invention is not to be restricted to the exact details of this disclosure, and the latter, therefore, is to be understood from an illustrative, rather than a restrictive standpoint.
The inventive idea involved is capable of receiving a variety of mechanical expressions, one of which, for the purpose of illustration, is shown in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a fragmental front view of a toy animal-head employing my improved nose-piece;
Fig. 2 is a fragmental sectional view taken on line 2-2 Fig. 1 and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the nose-piece.
Referring now to the drawing in detail 5 indicates the head portion of a toy animal, in the present instance the head is that of a teddy bear. Instead of the embroidered or fabric nose com- 40 monly used in toy animals of this nature, I provide a metallic nose-piece 6. The said nose-piece comprises a cupped shell 1 having prongs 8 extending upwardly therefrom, the said prongs being pointed and adapted to penetrate the head 45 covering fabric 9 and then bent back as shown in Fig. 2, to prevent the said nose-piece from being pulled out of place. The base In of the nose-piece may be provided with the particular nose characteristics ll of the toy animal with which it is used. 5
I desire it understood that although I have shown my improved toy animal nose-piece as representing the nose of a bear, the said nosepiece may be made to represent the nose or snout of any animal. 0
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a simple, inexpensive nose-piece, which may be made in simulation of the nose or snout of any animal and which can be readily secured in place and cannot accidentally come off after 15 it is so secured.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In combination with a toy animal head having a foundation of stuffed fabric, a metallic nose- 20 piece therefor, the said nose piece comprising a cupped shell and bendable prongs extending from the said shell, the said prongs penetrating and being bent about the head material for securing the said nose-piece in place.
2. In combination with a toy animal head having a foundation of stuffed fabric, a metallic nosepiece therefor, the said nose piece comprising a cup shaped member, a base on said cup shaped member, an upstanding peripheral wall on the said base, and a plurality of nose-piece securing prongs extending from the said peripheral wall, the said prongs penetrating and being bent about the head material for securing the said nosepiece in place. 35
3. In combination with a stuffed toy animal head, a nose-piece comprising a metallic cup shaped member, a base in said cup shaped member, prongs extending upwardly from the sides of said cup shaped member, said prongs adapted to be forced through the material covering the head of the toy animal, and bent inwardly to secure the nose-piece in firm engagement with the head of the said toy animal.
