Description
I W. M. LLOYD. Game-Table.
No. 209,818 Patented Nov. 12,1878.
ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
'WILLIAM M.'LLOYD, on NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN GAME-TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 209,818, dated November 12, 1878; application filed October 4, 1878.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM M. LLOYD, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Parlor Game-Tables, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a planview of my improved table. same, taken through the line .10 m, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved parlor-game, simple in construction, easily learned, and at the same time allowing a high degree of skill to be developed and exhibitcd'by the players.
Theinvention consists in a game-tableiormed of the table or board provided with the semi: circular row of cups, the inclined guide-cushions, the button-cushions, and the guards, as hereinafter fully described.
A represents the table or board, which may be made of any desired or convenient size, and is designed to be covered with cloth in the manner of a billiard-table. In the forward part of the table A are formed ten-more or less, but preferably ten-sernispherical holes or cups, B, arranged in an are a little greater than a semi-circumference, as shown in Fig. 1.
O are inclined guide'cushions attached to the table A, with their forward and inner ends near the end cups B, and with them outer ends near the side flanges of the table A.
D are button-cushions attached to the table A, midway between the cups B, and a little within the are of their inner sides, as shown in Fig. 1.
The cushions (l D may be made of wood,
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the metal, or other material faced with rubber, or they may be made wholly of rubber. The former construction is preferred, as the cushions, when made wholly of rubber, are a little too elastic.
To the table A, around the outer side of each of the holes B, is attached a semicircular row of pins, E, leading from the outer end of each of the button-cushions D to the ends of the adjacent cushions. The pins E are designed to serve as a guard to prevent the balls with which the game is played from passing to the outside of the cups B. The rows of pins E may be replaced with strips of sheet metal, or with other material; but I prefer the pins, as reacting upon. the balls with more elasticity and more reliably than continuous strips.
The game is designed to be played with ten balls and a cue, andthe object is to place a ball in each of the cups B at nine strokes.
The game may be varied in various ways, or
various games may be played upon that-able. Each of the cups B is designed to be numbered for convenience in counting as the game progresses.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentv A game-table formed of the table or board A, provided with the semicircular row of cups B, the inclined guide-cushions G, the buttoncushions D, and the guards E, substantially as herein shown and described.
WILLIAM M. LLOYD. Witnesses:
