Application July 2s, 193s, serial No. 93,097 s claims. `(o1. 16-114) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in oats of the character used when working with plaster, cement and the like materials, and more particularly to detachable handles or grips for devices of this general nature.

The principal object of the present invention is to provide a detachable handle or grip fo-r oats of the character set forth which is novelly constructed and arranged to permit ready attachment to or detachment from devices of that nature.

Another object of the invention is to provide a detachable handle or grip of the character set forth which is novelly constructed and arranged so that when attached to the float will eliminate the usual tendency for floats of this character to become warped.

A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the stated character which is relatively inexpensive to manufacture involving comparatively few parts.

These and other objects of the invention and the features and details of construction thereof are set forth hereinafter and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:

Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of a float having a handle or grip made in accordance with the present invention secured to the upper face thereof;

Fig. 2 is an enlarged end elevation view of the disclosure in Fig. 1;

Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view in section on line 3-3, Fig. 2, and

Fig. 4 is an enlarged detached view in perspective of a part of the present invention sho-Wing certain details of construction thereof.

Referring now more particularly to the drawing, reference numeral I designates a hand grip section which is slightly curved to better conform to the fit of the hand of the user. This hand grip section is preferably composed of wood, although other materials may be employed without departing from the invention, and a bracket 2, best illustrated in Fig. 4 of the drawing, is secured to each end of said hand grip section I at the under side thereof by means of rivets, bolts or like securing means 3 in the manner shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing.

As shown, the head I 0 of each lag screw 9 is provided with recesses or holes I I in the several side faces thereof for reception of a nail or other suitable element I2 by means of which said screw may be `turned in the socket.

The lower edge or surface I3 of the vertical leg portion of each of the brackets 2 is extended as shown to provide a comparatively long bearing upon the float board I4 to which the handle is attached, and this lower end edge or surface I3 of each of said brackets is preferably slightly concave in form so that the outer end portions I5 of said edges or surfaces I3 will bear solidly against the upper face of the float board and prevent the latter from warping.

To attach the handle to a float board, the j former is pushed down against the upper face of the latter and the screws 9 turned by means of the nail or like element I2 which is inserted in one of the recesses or holes II therein so as to cause said screws 9 to penetrate the said board as indicated in Fig. 3 of the drawing. While one specific embodiment o-f the invention has been set forth herein for purposes of description, it is not intended that the invention shall be precisely limited to such disclosure, but that changes and modifications in the construction and arrangement thereof may be incorporated within the scope of the annexed claims.

A detachable handle structure of the character described including a hand grip, a bracket secured at each end of said hand grip and including a portion having an extended surface arranged to contact the surface of an article to which said handle may be secured to provide a comparatively long bearing for the handle thereon and means associated with each of said brackets operable to detachably secure the handle structure to such article.

A detachable handle structure of the character described including a hand grip, a bracket secured at. each end of said hand grip ,and including a portion having an extended slightly `concave surface arranged to Contact the surface of an article toy which said handle may be secured to provide a comparatively long bearing for the handle thereon, and means associated With each of said brackets operable to detachably secure the handle structure to such article.

A detachable handle structure of the character described including a hand grip, a bracket secured at each end of said hand grip and including a portion having an extended surface disposed transversely of the hand grip and arranged to contact the Ysurface of an article to` which said handle may be secured to provide a comparatively long bearing for the handle thereon, and means associated with each of said brackets operable to detfwhably secure the handle structure toI such article. 6. 'A detachable handle structure of the character described including a hand grip, a bracket secured at each end of said hand grip and including a portion having an extended slightly concavesurface disposed transversely of the hand grip yand arranged to contact the surface of an article to which said handle may be secured to provide acomparatively long bearing for the handle thereon, and means associated with each of said brackets operable to detachably secure the handle structure to such article.
