Ihe invention relates to a machine for working, especially shearing metal plates and other sheet material. It relates particularly to such machines in which the shearing is effected by cutting or stamping out a narrow strip from the plate. Machines of this kind are known, which consist substantially of a support for the metal plate in the shape of astamping pad and of a stamp or punch movable up and down through a recess in saidsupport, and in whichthe guiding. means andthe driving mechanism are arranged below the supporting surface for the plate. Such machines have the advantage of being free from any superstructure above the working table which would take up much roomabove the table and would bar the feeding of the plate to the stamp. O n account of the great stresses to which the stamp and the motion mechanism are subjected in said type of machines it has, however, been diilicult ,to Vfind a. suitable design for the stamp and the motion mechanism. The present invention has for its object to provide an improvement in this respect in machines of the kind mentioned 4and consists substantially therein that the stamp is swingably mounted in the support. It is hereby rendered possible to obtain a secure and reliable mounting and guiding of the stamp, and in addition the transmission of movement can be ar- A ranged in a more simple manner by means of rotating members only, resulting in a compact and 4reliable construction. For the transmission of movement there is preferably employed a socalled waddling disk which may be pivotally.

In the embodiment shown in Figures 1 to 3, the frame. of the apparatus consists of a horizontal foot l provided with ears 2, 3 for clamping the frame to a suitable foundation avertical portion 4, which forms part of a cylinder, and an upper horizontal portion 5 which supports. the.. stamping-pad or support for the plate. On rotation of the pulley 23, the button-shaped end 2li of the shank I9 will perform a revolving movement, the longitudinal axis of Vthe waddling disk then describing a revolving movement in the surface of a cone. The stamping disk Ill is arranged in such position that its swinging axis intersects the axis of the cone traced by the axis of the waddling disk. Consequently7 the stamping disk will perform a swing,- ing movement about the pivot II in the plane of the guiding slit 9. Y

When the machine is used, the plate is moved on tothe stamping disk along the plane upper surface 8 of the stamping pad. VSince the stamping disk I9 is performing a rapid swinging movement, the plate will move in `under 'the tooth 26 and a corresponding portion of the plate will be stamped out each time the tooth moves in the direction towards the pad down intol the slit 9. The cuttings drop into a recess ,or hollow 3l in the pad and pass from here out of theimachine through a recess 32 in the frame portion 5. When the cutting edges of the tooth have become worn, the pad can be readily taken apart and the stamping disk Il)k turned round, so that Vthe opposite side of the tooth becomes operativel` When the corresponding edges of the slit 9 become worn the stamping disk Ill-can also be turned, so that thetooth willact in the diagrammatically opposite end of the slit V9. For said purpose similarV recesses 33 and 34 are provided at the opposite side of the pad and frame respectively through which the cuttings can leave theV machine.

A nibbling machine comprising a stamping pad the upper surface of which forms the supporting surface for the plate to be cut, a slitshaped recess in said stamping pad, va stamp swingably mounted within saidrecess, a pivot for said stamp disposed transversally of said recessV close-to the upper surface of the stamping pad, circular recesses in the pad, detachable ring shaped parts `placed in said circular recesses and forming the cutting edges of" the pad, a clamping ring embracing said ring-shaped parts so as to hold the latter firmly in place, a pad supporting frame, a motor for driving the stamp, and a motion mechanism for imparting a swinging motion to the stamp, said motion mechanism being mounted'in'said frame below the stamping pad.
5. A nibbling machine as claimed in claim 4,
in which the ring-'shaped parts comprise two in-i ner ring segments the opposite end portions o'f which form the sides of the pad opening for the stamp, and an outer split ring the inner edge of which forms the outer side of said opening.
6. A nibbling machine as claimed in claim 4, in which the pad has a circular form and is clamped to the upper cylindrical portion of the frame by means o-f the clamping ring.

A nibbling machine comprising a stamping pad the upper surface of which forms the supporting surface for the plate to be cut, a slitshaped recess in said stamping pad, a stamp swingably mounted within said recess, a pivot for said stamp disposed transversally of said recess close to the upper surface of the stamping pad, a pad supporting frame, a motor for driving the stamp, and a motion mechanism for imparting a swinging motion to the stamp, said motion mechanism being mounted in said frame beloWthe stamping pad.
8. A nibbling machine as claimed in claim 7 in which the stamp is driven from a rotating shaft through the intermediary of a Waddling disc the swinging axis of which is directed towards the swinging axis of the stamp.

A nibbling machine comprising a stamping pad the upper surface of which forms the supporting surface for the plate to be cut, a slitshaped recess in said stamping pad, a stamp swingably mounted Within said recess, a pivot for said stamp disposed transversally of said'recess close to the upper surface of the stamping pad, a pad supporting frame, a motor for driving the Y stamp mounted in said frame below the stamping pad, and a motion mechanism for imparting a swinging motion to the stamp comprising a Waddling disc adapted to be driven from a rotating shaft and mounted between a sliding edge of the stamp and a bearing surface of the pad so as to allow a sliding motion between the stamp and the Waddling disc.
10. A nibbling machine as claimed in claim 9 in which the waddling disc is provided with a pivot the outer end of which engages a recess provided eccentrically in a rotating disc.
