The principal object of the inventionis to pro- '5 vide a Venetian blind, composed of a plurality of co-acting shutters, in which preselected groups of the shutters may be .moved independently of others of the shutters so that fractional por tions of the opening, in which the blind is mounted, may be closed while'the other portions of the the specific form thereof shown and described as various other embodiments thereof may be employed within the scope of the appended claims. 4 l

The greater part oi' Figure l illustrates a conventional Venetian blind structure comprising a support t which may bethe frame of a window, or a door, inthe opening of which the blind is mounted. Secured to the' upper portion of the frame, within the opening, by screws, or otherwise, is a header t provided at opposite endswith brackets t on which is supported for rotary movement about its longitudinal axis, a rocker bar l. Attached to opposite edges of the rocker bar,
in spaced relation, is a pair of fabric tapes 8'Y depending from the bar to form loops and provided at spaced intervals with connecting webs s upon which rest the shutters II. It will be seen that the spacing of the webs e, along the fabric loops, determines the spacing of the shutters. Secured in the lower end of each of the loops is a bar I 2 which acta as a weight to maintain the tapes t taut. @ne of the brackets 6 encloses ,-,Olsuitable gearing, not shown, which may be actuated by pull chains i3 to cause rotation of the rocker bar l and consequently cause the opposed tapes 8 of each loop to move in opposite directions thereby moving the shutters il into overlapped positions, similar to that in which the group of shutters in the lower portion of Figure 1 is? shown, to cover the window or door opening. Each of the shutters II and the rocker bar i are provided with alined apertures I4 through which pass cords I6 the lower end of each of which 5` is secured to the bar I2 and the upper portions thereof passing into the header 4 through apertures I'I and outwardly therefrom through apertures I8 located adjacent one side of the frame 3 and terminating together in a connector I9. l0 Itwill be seen that by pulling downwardly on the connector I9 the bar I2 will be moved toward the upper part of the frame thereby collapsing the blind and uncovering the greater part of the opening to permit passage of the maximum l5 amount of light therethrough. 'Ihe structure and the operation thus far described will be recognized as the conventional Venetian blind in which the shutters II may, by the pull chains I3, be moved, as a group, to pozo sitions wherein they are disposed edgewse and thereby provide the leastdegree of obstruction to light coming through the opening, or to positions wherein they are broadside to the light thereby covering the opening and permitting the 2-5 passage therethrough of a minimum of light. I have provided means whereby separate groups of the shutters. may be opened or closed independently of the other groups thereby permitting the covering or uncovering of as little or as great 30 a. portion -of the area of the opening as desired.
