Description
E. M. WHY-LEE. Liquid Measure.
No. 208,779. Patented Oct. 8,1878.
WITNE SSES QaL/M,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDlVARD M. VVHYLER, OF' HAYS CITY, KANSAS, ASSIGNOR TO HENRY KRUEGER, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN LIQUID-MEASURES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 208,779, dated October 8, 1878; application filed February 27, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD M. WHYLER, of Hays City, in the county of Ellis and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Combined Liquid-Measure and Funnel, which is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawmg.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my measure. Fig. 2 is also a side View of same. Fig. 3 is a top view of same.
The object of my invention is to provide a liquid measure and funnel combined which shall have pins or In gs aflixed to the tube part of funnel, whereby it is prevented from entering the mouth of bottles and choking same; and in carrying out my invention I prefer to graduate the measure, so that one measuringvessel may serve for measuring the various lesser quantities.
Referring to the drawing, A represents the measure, made of any suitable metal, and is graduated by horizontal or annular grooves or depressions b, pressed in the metal either outwardly, as shown in Fig. 1, or inwardly, as shown in Fig. 2. These grooves indicate the various measurements-as halfpint, pint, quart, 8:0. 0 represents the handle.
Instead of the lip with which ordinary measures are usually provided, a funnel, C, of
proper shape, is fitted and secured to the top or rim of measure. On either side of tube part of funnel, near the end, pins (1 are aflixed, which prevent the tube from entering the mouth of cans or bottles so far as to completely stop the same. Thus space is always left for the escape of air. These pins also constitute a kind of pivotal rest for the weight of measure, facilitating its tipping to empty its contents.
The operation of my combined measure and funnel is apparent. Its use in stores will obviate the inconvenience of separate measures and funnels.
Having described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- The combined-liquid measure and funnel, with pins d secured to the tube part of funnel, as and for the purpose specified.
E. M. \VHYLER.
Witnesses:
FRED. KRUEGER, CHAS. R. ODERFELD.
