The grip may be constructed so the number of grooves 6 and I may be increased in number to suit various sizes of wires or cables, and the shapes and relative proportion of the various parts of the grip or clamp may be varied to suit economic manufacture and convenience of operation without departing from the substance of the invention.
The claims for this invention are as follows:
1. A clamp of the character described comprising a frame, a jaw thereon, a second jaw facing said rst named jaw, means slidably mounting said second jaw on the frame for movement bodily toward and away from the first named jaw, a toggle link pivoted on the frame, and a second toggle link pivoted on said second jaw and pivotally secured to the rst named link, guide means at the pivotal connection of said second link and second jaw slidably connected with-said frame to guide the second law directly toward and away from said rst named jaw, and a draw bar connected to said links at a point where they are pivotally secured together and movable in said frame.
2. A cable grip which comprises a frame, a stationary jaw on said frame, a movable jaw mounted on said frame for sliding movement toward and away from said stationary jaw in a direction substantially perpendicular toy the stationary jaw, a pair of toggle links pivoted to each other with one pivoted to the frame and the other to the movable jaw whereby movement of said links toward alignment with each other moves said movable jawtoward the stationary jaw, and a draw bar connected to the links ata point where they are pivotally secured together and slidably mounted o-n the frame, and spring means pressi-ng the bar in a direction to move the jaws together.
3. In a clamp of the character described, a frame, a stationary jaw, a movable jaw slidably mounted on the frame for movement toward and away from the stationary jaw, a toggle link, a pivot pin connecting said link with the movable jaw, a second toggle link, a pivot pin connecting said links to each other, a pivot pin on the frame spaced from said movable jaw, said second toggle link bei-ng mounted on said last named pivot pin, and means to connect the toggle links to a tensioning device whereby to apply cable tensioning force to said links for closing the jaws upon a cable said last named means comprising a draw bar secured to the pivot pin which connects said links together.
4. In a clamp of the character described, a frame, a stationary jaw, a movable jaw slidably mounted on the frame for movement toward and away from -the stationary jaw, a toggle link, a pivot pin connecting said link with the movable jaw, a second toggle link, a pivot pin connecting said links to each other, a pivot pin on the frame spaced from said movable jaw, said second toggle link being mounted 0n said last named pivot pin, and means to connect the toggle links to a tensioning device whereby to apply cable tensioning force to said links for closing the jaws upon a cable, said movable jaw having a bearing surface engaged by the adjacent end of the rst named link, each link having a bearing surface engaged by the end of the other link, and the framehaving a bearing surface engaged by the adjacent end of the second link.
5. In a clamp of the character described, a frame, a stationary jaw, a movable jaw slidably mounted on the frame for movement toward and away from the stationary jaw, a toggle link, a pivot pin connecting said link with the movable jaw, a second toggle link, a pivot pin connecting said links to each other, a pivot pin on the frame spaced from said movable jaw, said second toggle link being mounted on said last named pivot pin, and means to connect the toggle links to a tensioning device whereby to apply cable tensioning force to said links for closing the jaws upon a cable, said last named means comprising a draw bar mounted on said second named pivot pin, and a bearing on said frame through which said draw bar is slidable.
