Description

July 20, 1937. s, ITCH ICK 2,087,328
CLAMP Filed Feb 3, 1936 l W ek INVENTOR.
ATTORNEY.
Patented July 20, 1937 NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
My invention relates to: improvements in devices for stretching garments such as trousers during the steaming operation, and more particularly, has reference to a device adapted for use in combination with the steam table or board for holding the lower end of the trouser leg while the same is being steamed so as to stretch the same while steaming, by pulling the trouser from the upper end during the steaming operation.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, I have illustrated in Fig. 1 in perspective a form of device embodying an application of my invention. Fig. 2 is a View in perspective of a traveling block for taking up slack, and Fig. 3 is a similar View of an anchor block.
t indicates a rectangular tube in one end or which is secured the anchor block 5 by suitable means such as the screw 6. Said anchor block having a hole I for the passage of the rod 8 which is screw-threaded as indicated at 9 engaging the screw threads ill in the traveling block H which may be cut away as indicated at I2 to receive the end l3 of the metal band M, the other end of which is screwed into the block 5 as indicated at I5 and upon the outer end of rod 8 may be provided a terminal or bearing iii, a sleeve ll being provided at the inner end and secured thereupon by screw M3 for bearing against the outer end of the block 5; and i9 indicates the shank of the wheel secured upon shaft 8.
In operation, the loop or metal strip [4 is slipped over the end of the steaming table with the lower end of the trouser leg within it. The wheel 20 is now turned thereby rotating the screw 9 which causes the block I I to travel rightwardly looking at Fig. 1, thereby shortening loop l4 until it tightly binds the end of the trouser leg so that after the steam has been turned on by grip-ping the upper portion of the trouser the leg may be pulled or stretched during the steaming operation and after one leg of the trouser has been treated as aforesaid, by reversing the wheel 2|] the metal strip Hi is released sufficiently by the reverse travel of the block H to allow the end of the 10 trouser leg to be withdrawn and the end of the other trouser leg to be inserted, whereupon by repeating the aforesaid operations the same result will be accomplished on the other trouser leg.
Of course it will be understood that various modifications may be made in the construction 0 and arrangements of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
I claim:
1. An article of the class described comprising a rectangular tubular base, a traveling member 20 therein, a rotatable screw rotatably mounted in said base and threadably engaging said traveling member and a strap secured to said base and member and means for rotating said screw.
2. An article of the character described comprising a tubular base rectangular in cross section, a threaded traveler slidably mounted therein, a screw threadably engaging said traveler and rotatable but not slidable in said base, a loop conmeeting said base and traveler, and means for rotating said screw for enlarging or reducing said loop.
