Description

July 13, 1937f H. MSHHNAKA UNAM TOILET SEAT HEATER l Filed Nov. 6, 1956 3mm/vbo@ if, Nz's imho Patented July 13, 1937 l Claim.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in toilet seat heaters.
The primary object of this invention is to provide a toilet seat of channel construction with an electric heater located within the channel and having a switch device associated with the heater for varying the degree of temperature, thereof so that warm air at the desired temperature may be circulated through the channel seat for the comforture of the users thereof.
With the above and other objects in view that Will become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.
Figure 1 is a top plan View of a toilet seat constructed in accordance with the present invention, the seat being of channel construction with an electric heater illustrated by dotted lines extending into one end thereof;
Figure. 2 is a bottom plan View of the seat showing spaced openings in the lower side thereof to facilitate heated air circulation; 5 Figure 3 is a detail sectional View taken on line 3 3 of Figure l, showing the hinged mounting for the toilet seat, the channel construction of the seat and the electric heater extending into the seat;
Figure 4 is a detail sectional view taken on line 4-'4 of Figure l; and
Figure 5 is a diagrammatic view oi' the electric heating element.
As shown in Figure 3 of the drawing, the reference character I0 designates the stand or bowl of a toilet having a seat II hinged thereto as at I2 with .the usual hinged cover I3 for the seat.
The seat II is of the usual design or conguration, but is of hollow construction and as shown in Figure 4 embodies a flat strip bottom wall I4 and an upwardly arched top wall I5 dening a channel I6, the marginal edges of the arched top wall I5 seating on the bottom wall I4 and being secured thereto as at I'I. The bottom wall I4 of the seat I I is cut away adjacent the hirige mounting I2 to facilitate the placement in the chamber I6 of an electric heating element and said cutaway portion is closed by a separate plate I8 as shown in Figures 2 and 3. Cushion plugs IIS! are carried by the bottom wall I4 of the seat to (Cl. Z119-i9) maintain the latter in spaced relation to the toilet bowl lil. As shown in Figure 2, spaced openings 2@ are formed in the bottom wall Id of the seat to facilitate the circulation of heated air.
An electric resistance element 2l is carried by the rear side wall of the seat Il adjacent the hinged mounting I2 and extends into the chamber I5, the mounting for the resistance element 2l including an insulation block 22 set into the 10 toilet seat as shown in Figure 3 with a rheostat 23 disposed at the outer side o the insulation block 22 and operated by a hand switch M A wiring diagram and source of electrical energy for the resistance element 2l is shown in Figure 15 5, the resistance element 2Ia having wire connections 25 and 2t with a source of electrical energy 2l with the rheostat 23a and switch 2da interposed in the line or conductor 26.
rlhe rheostat controls the amount of electric current iiowingl through the resistance element 2l asishown in Figure 3 and the circulation of air through the chamber I6 of` the seat II is facilitated by the openings 20 in the bottom wall Ill of the seat, the air owing over the electric resistance element 2 Iv to be heated thereby and for raising the temperature of the seat II to the desired degree.
From the above detailed description of the invention, it is believed that the construction and use thereof will at once be apparent and while there is herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein Without departing from the spirit and scope of the inventionas claimed.
In a device of the character described, a toilet seat of channel construction and having a flat strip bottom Wall and an upwardly arched top wall dening a chamber therebetween, there being openings in the bottom wall to facilitate the circulation of air through the chamber, an electric resistance element in one end of the chamber, a rheostat exteriorly of the seat and associated with the resistance element for controlling the flow of electrical energy through the resistance element, the mounting for the resistance 4element including an insulation plate supported in a wall of the seat and carrying the resistance element and rheostat.
