Claims.

My invention relates to a novel package which can be used particularly but not necessarily in connection with bulk products, such for example,

as cereals, cookies and the. like which package 5 when emptied can be severed and be easily and quickly converted into an article of headgear.

In connection with the sale of merchandise, ef-

fort is expended to create some particular connection between the goods of a particular manufacturer or producer and the ultimate user. This is particularly true in connection with goods sold to children. Also the beneficial characteristics of the particular product are pointed out and emphasized by being related to some object or character of general appeal to aid in the sale of said goods. In the package which I have created this co-relation can be accomplished by forming the particular article of head gear into that of some such idealized character or into the hat of some 30 romantic class such as a soldlers hat, policemans hat, Indians head gear, or the like. In the accompanying drawing I have illustrated how a condensed shako can be produced from the sides and end of a cylindrical container. In

this manner, for example, the strength giving characteristics of a given product can be tied directly with the desire to simulate carriage and appeal of a West Point cadet or of a drum major. The outlines of an article of head gear of this character can be delineated upon the side walls of acontainer and said delineations can be of such depth as to perforate, partly perforate, rupture or weaken the side walls of said container to aid in the severing of a container along said delineated markings.

A container embodying my invention comprises side walls a and end caps b if said container is a cylindrical one. Delineated upon the label c which encompasses the exterior of the side walls is the particular article of headgear to be formed. In the drawing the body portion of a "shak0 is delineated in dotted outline. As is shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing the markings form weakening indentations or perforations so as to aid in the rupturing of said side wall to form said article of headgear. The delineations upon the label preferably do not weaken or perforate the latter,

' but arev merely printed lines, or are the edges of the covered portions of said label. Thus said label seals the weakened'portions of the inner shellflof said container. The registration of the marks on the label with the marks on the inner shell assures that the lines or design on the former will supplement the weakened portions of the latter to produce a relatively sharp clean edge without depreciating the value of the container when in use as a holder for the products being vended therein.

The end cap or caps b, and preferably both of them, are similarly marked and adapted for severance. Each of the end caps preferably is provided with a down turned flange b which can be cut at D! and folded back so that it can be secured to one edge of the side wall or the body of' the "shak0, as is illustrated in Fig. 4.

This securing can be done with adhesive, a staple, a thong or any other manner deemed convenient and appropriate.

Various additional bits of accessory equipment a can be provided, such for example as the chin strap 1 made of cord, leather, thong or rubber band, a decorative cord g to fit above the bill or peak of said shako and about the body portion i thereof. A decorative medallion or other article of ornament i can be arranged upon said body portions above the bill or peak and below the portion k simulating a plume thereon.

It is to be understood that the article of headdress illustrated is only one selected for the purpose oi illustration of my invention and is not to be limited thereto. A cylindrical container also is shown for convenience as it lends itself admirably to the illustration of my invention. I do not intend, however, that my invention shall be limited to the specific showing made but it is limited only by the matter set out in the claims which follow;

I claim:

1. A box-like container provided with a cylindrical side wall and removable ends, the side wall of said container provided with delineating markings to define the body portions of an article oi! head gear and one of said end members provided with a down turned flange and similar drical side wall and removable ends, the side wall of said container provided with delineating markings weakening said wall along said markings to-deflne the body portions of an article oi head gear.

4. A box-like container provided with a cylindrical side wall and removable ends, the side wall of said container provided with delineating markings weakening said wall along said markings to'define the body portions of an article of head gear, said container comprising a wall of double thickness, the weakening markings being formed only upon one of said thicknesses.

5. A box-like container provided with a cylindrical side wall and removable ends, the side wall of said container provided with delineating markings weakening said wall along said mark-H ings to define the body' portions of an article.
