lNvNToR 'HEnPHILE TARISIEN EY ATTORNEY Patented May 25, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEA SPEED GOVERNOR Theophile Tarisien, Livry-Gargan, France, assignor to The Westinghouse Air Brake Company, Wilmcrding, Pa., a corporation of Penn- Sylvania Original application January 8, 1935, Serial No. 809. Divided and this application July 12, 1935, Serial No. 31,044. In France April 11, 1934 14 Claims. (Cl. 137-140) This invention relates to speed governors and which is rigidly secured to the guides 11. A more particularly to a speed controlled valve deslider 36 is disposed between the guides 11 at vice, the present application being a division of one end of the slide valve 33 and is adapted to my pending application, Serial No. 809, filed engage said slide valve for moving same in one January 8, 1935, and now Patent No. 2,061,883 direction on the seat 29. 'Ihe slider is provided issued No 24, 1936 in one end with a bore which receives a pin Ill 'I'he principal object of the invention is to secured in the slide valve through the medium of provide an improved valve device of the above which the slide valve is adapted to be pulled in type. the opposite direction. This movement of the member 31 A radially disposed valve seat 29 is provided acting through the slider 36 shifts the slide .0 on the outer face of the rotor |9 between two valve 33 on its seat until by the time a certain 50 spaced parallel guides 11, and a slide valve 33 speed of rotation of rotor I9 is obtained, the is mounted to slide on said seat between said port 28 is uncovered by the end of said slide guides. The slide valve 33 is resiliently held in valve and opened to chamber |1 thereby estabcontact with the seat 29 by means of a spring lishing communication from pipe I8 to pipe 26 34 mounted on a segmental member or mass 35 through said chamber and port, the annular 55 Cri Cil
cavity 21, port 24 and passage 25. It will be noted that in this position of the slide valve 33 the cavity 40 is moved out of registry With port 28.
As the speed of the rotor I9 is decreased, the action of centrifugal force on the member 31 reduces, which permits the spring 38 to gradually return the slide valve 33 to the position in whichn cavity 40 connects passages 28 and 30, and communication between passage 2@ and chamber l1 is closed.
The mass 35 Which is fixed to the rotor i9 isr provided to substantially counteract or neutralize the action of centrifugal force on the movable mass 3l during operation of the governor.
It should be noted that the slide valve 33 occupies a plurality of various positions according to the speed of rotation of the rotor I9 and may, if desired, be arranged to control in said positions a greater or less number of communications, than above described, without exceeding the scope of the invention.
While one illustrative embodiment of the invention has been described in detail, it is not my intention to limitits scope to that embodiment or otherwise than by the scope of the appended claims.
