Description

D. 0 HUBBARD.
Shovel-Plow.
No. 20,798. Patented July 6, 1858.
Witnesses= Inventor:
AM- PHOTO-LITHO. 50. MY (GBBURNE'S PROCESS) UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIC D. O. HUBBARD, OF OKOLONA, MISSISSIPPI.
IMPROVEMENT lN CULTIVATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 20,798, dated July 6, 1858.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, DUNCAN O. HUBBARD, of Okolona, in the county of Ohickasaw,in the State of Mississippi, have invented a new and Improved Plow; and I hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accom pan ying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in adjusting or fitting the share T E S F (or any other plowshare) to the long stock A B G D, after the manner of the common plane-bit to its stock.
The advantages which this plow and this way of stocking plows has over others are that the long heel B 0 makes the share cut with evenness and certaintyany required depth at which it may be set, is of lighter draft, that from its being easily guided and running very steadily it does not require a skillful plowman, and that it thoroughly sweeps out any row of ordinary breadth with one mule of medium size in one course.
The construction is simple. The part A F D G I N, to which the share is bolted, projects aboutone inch from the body ofthe stock. The part L M R P is cut away in order to fasten the bolts to b a b in such a manner that they may not interfere with the running of the plow. The slits m n m a, through which the bolts pass, will allow the share to be set to any required depth. The small barrow-tooth h 2 will stir up the soil pressed down by the stock.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of share T E S F, stock A B O D, and tooth h z, the whole being constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
DUNCAN U. HUBBARD.
