Patented May 11, 1937 UNITED STATES APPARATUS FOR CONTROLLING AN IRON CORD Frank J. Burns,
Youngstown, Ohio Application December 12, 1934, Serial No. 757,146
1 Claim.
This invention relates to a cord adjusting device, and primarily for use in taking up or adjusting the slack in the conducting cord of an electric appliance to permit of the extension and recession of the cord.
A further object is to provide adjustable means for carrying the cord upon a support.
A still further object is to provide means for lengthening or shortening a rod carrying an electric cord.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein: V
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a fragmentary portion of an ironing board with my improved cord adjusting device attached thereto.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of a fragmentary portion of an ironing board with my improved cord adjusting device attached thereto, together with an electric cord positioned upon the device and attached to a fragmentary flat iron.
By referring to Figure 1 it will be seen that there is provided an ironing board I to which is attached a cord adjusting device having a fiat spring 2. Slidably positioned upon this flat spring 2 there is a rod 3 having a longitudinal 5 slot 4 at the lower end. It will also be seen that this lower end is provided with a ferrule 5. There is provided a spring clamp 6 on the free end of the rod 3 and also a slidably main- 10 tained clamp 1 for the purpose of holding an electric cord 8 as shown in Figure 2. In Figure 2 an electric cord 8 is shown attached to a fiat iron 9 as well as being held in position by the clamps 6 and 1.
I claim:
A cord adjusting device comprising a rod having a longitudinal slot in one end thereof, a fiat spring adapted to be secured to a support and having an upwardly extending portion the end 20 of which portion extends within said longitudinal slot, a ferrule disposed about the slotted end of the rod, said rod being movable in a vertical plane against the tension of the flat spring, a spring clamp carried by the free end of the rod, 25 and a clamp for holding an electric cord secured to the rod and slidable longitudinally thereof.
