Description

B. R. NYHAGEN SANDAL OVERSHOE May 4, 1937.
Filed Jan. 8, 1936 IN VENTOR. BAP/YE) 7.7YYl/A6-E1V BY fa 24% fw- ATTORNEYS Patented May 4, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to overshoes and refers more particularly to an overshoe of the sandal type which is in the nature of an improvement upon my prior United States Letters Patent, No. 1,537,778, granted May 12, 1925;
The invention broadly comprehends a sandal type overshoe which is fashioned from waterproof elastic material such as rubber and which includes a covering for the sole and forepart of the upper of a shoe together with a pair of angularly related loops, one extending rearwardly around the heel portion of the shoe upper and the other extending upwardly to fit over the instep so as to provide means for preventing the gaping of the upper edges of the covering and to draw and maintain the lower rear edge of the covering in intimate contact with the sole of the shoe.
The invention further resides in a foldable sandal type overshoe which consists of two identically shaped portions disposed parallel to and in fiat contact with each other when folded and contoured so as to provide when unfolded a covering for the sole and forepart of the upper, together with a pair of angularly related loops one extending rearwardly around the heel part of the upper and the other extending upwardly over the instep.
The invention also provides a foldable sandal type overshoe of the character set forth in which relatively thick roughened tread areas are provided on the sole covering part of each portion which areas are disposed on opposite sides of the fold line in order to permit of the ready folding of the overshoe to a flat compact arrangement when not in use.
With the above and other objects in view, reference is now made to the following specification and the accompanying drawing in which there is set forth a pref-erred embodiment of the invention, while the appended claims cover variations and modifications thereof.
In the drawing:
Fig. l is a perspective view of a sandal type overshoe constructed in accordance with the invention and illustrating the same in applied position with the shoe in dotted lines.
Fig. 2 is a side view of the overshoe in folded position.
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the overshoe in open position.
Fig. 4 is a rear edge view of the folded overshoe.
Referring to the drawing by characters of reference, the overshoe includes a covering portion A adapted to fit under the sole of the shoe from the toe to the rear of the shank at the juncture of the same with the breast of the heel and over the forepart of the upper. The overshoe is also provided with a pair of angularly related loops B and C, the former extending rearwardly and adapted to fit around the heel portion of the upper and the latter extending upwardly and designed to fit over the instep. The loop B prevents accidental forward displacement of the overshoe fro-m the foot while the loop C serves to prevent the gaping of the upper edges of the overshoe while drawing and maintaining the lower rear edge D of the covering into intimate contact with the sole of the shoe.
The overshoe is preferably constructed of waterproof elastic material and includes two identically shaped portions l0 and l l which are normally disposed in flat contact with each other to provide a compact arrangement when the overshoe is not in use, thus permitting the same to be conveniently carried in the pocket or hand bag.
Non-slip wear resistant tread areas l2 and I3 are provided on the sole covering part of each of the portions 10 and II, the inner longitudinal edges of which are disposed in spaced relation parallel to each other and parallel to the fold line M which extends from the rear edge D of the covering portion A upwardly over the toe part of the upper covering portion. The loop elements B and C are also provided with fold lines l5 and I5 corresponding to the fold line I4.
What is claimed is:
1. A foldable sandal type overshoe constructed of waterproof elastic material including two identically shaped portions disposed parallel to and in fiat contact with each other when folded, and contoured to provide when unfolded a covering for the sole and forepart of the upper, a pair of angularly related loops, one extending rearwardly and adapted to fit around the heel portion of the upper and the other extending upwardly to fit over the instep, and relatively thick roughened tread areas on the sole covering part of each of said areas having the adjacent inner edges thereof spaced apart and located on opposite sides of a relatively thinner linear portion constituting a fold line.
2. In a sandal type overshoe constructed of water-proof elastic material, a pair of identically shaped portions disposed parallel to and in fiat contact with each other when folded,
and contoured to provide when unfolded a covering for the sole and shoe upper, and relatively thick tread areas on the sole covering part of each of said portions and spaced apart at the adjacent edges to define therebetween a fold line permitting of the folding of the said portions of the overshoe into fiat contact with each other with the tread areas disposed outwardly.
