Patented May 4, 1937 UNITED STATES NONSLIP RATLINE CLAMP Harry M. Parkin, Beaufort, N. 0.
Application May 9, 1936, Serial No. 78,947
3 Claims.
This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in clamps for ratlines.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a clamp for firmly holding ratlines 5 in place on shrouds.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a clamp of the character described which will permit fastening of ratlines in place in an easy and convenient manner, by the simple 1O operation of tightening nuts.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a clamp of the character stated which will be of low cost of manufacture and of convenience to fit in place.
These and various other important objects of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 represents a perspective view showing the ratlinesattached to shrouds.
Figure 2 is an enlarged perspective view showing one end of a ratline about to be engaged into the clamp before the clamp is tightened.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of one of the clamps.
Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that the shrouds are denoted by numeral 5, while the ratlines are denoted by numeral 6.
30 The clamp consists of the U-shaped member I, the leg members of which are bent downwardly as at 88 and then laterally as at 9-9 in a direction under the portions Ill-l0, of the U-shaped member and in parallel relation there- 3 to. These leg portions 9--9 are substantially longer than the portions Ill-I and extend through openings in the cross block II and are threaded as at I2 to accommodate nuts 13. It can be seen, that the U-shaped member 1 is 40 engaged with the shroud in the manner suggested in Figure 2 and the leg portions 99 are disposed through the block II. The block II is provided with a notched out portion l4 so that the shroud 5 can fit therein.
Next, the end portion of the ratline 6 is engaged between the portions 9-9 and l0--l0 and further between the portions 8-8 and the shroud 5, as suggested in Figure 5 after which the nuts l3 are tightened and this clamps firmly the ratline 5 end between the upright washers 88 and the ratline 5.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and 10 materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
What is claimed is:- p
1. A ratline clamp comprising a rigid unitary 5 U-shaped member provided with depending leg portions, said depending leg portions being further bent laterally, a block having openings therein through which the last-mentioned portions are disposed and fastening means between the end portions of the u shaped member and the said block.
2. A ratline clamp comprising a rigid unitary U-shaped member provided with laterally disposed leg portions, said laterally disposed leg portions-being bent backwardly in parallel relation to the U-shaped member, and a cross member through which the said backwardly disposed portions are disposed. V 3. A ratline clamp comprising a U-shaped member provided with laterally disposed leg portions, said laterally disposed leg portions being bent backwardly in parallel relation to the U-shaped member, and a cross member provided with a pair of openings therein for receiving the backwardly bent portion, said backwardly bent portions being rigid and provided with threads and nuts engaged on the threaded portions of the backwardly bent portions for disposition against the said cross member.
