IMPROVEMENT IN STEAM COOKING APPARATUS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 207,838, dated September 10, 1878; application filed April 22, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LATHAM H. AYER, of Keokuk, Lee county, Iowa, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Steam Cooking Apparatus. This is made substantially as hereinafter set forth, referring to the accompanying drawings, in Which- Figures 1 and 2 show vertical sections of the apparatus.
This invention relates to an improved apparatus for providing steam for cooking feed, heating, &c.; and consists in the improved features hereinafter set forth.
The furnace A is provided with a grate, B, and door D, having latch D, hinges D, and register air-inlets R. It has wall 0, with water-space E around it, with an inclosingwall, F, and ends G H, forming an oval cyl inder. This has a return-flue, K, with a connection, L, to unite its rearend with that of the furnace, and a chimney, M, inserted in the front end of the fine, and held upright by holder N from the wall F. In some cases the connection L is not used, and the chimney is put on in position M with the holder N, so
that the smoke goes directly up. In such cases the flue K may be omitted, if desired.
The whole apparatus rests on a peculiar frame, having legs I, curved parts I, and connections I.
The part L is inserted in the back end of the furnace to contract it to receive the end of part L or chimney M. V
The steampressure is regulated by safetyvalve T.
The door D has a draft-regulator, R. The connection L has parts to be inserted into the furnace and flue to connect them. The waterchamber E has an opening, P, by which water is put in and by which it is cleaned out. This is closed by a cap, T, with rubber or other packing, and a means of holding. It also has a steam-pipe, S, to convey heat to the cooking or heating chamber, and one or more watergages, U.
I claim- 1. The cylinder-boiler having the internal horizontal furnace A extending through the boiler, of uniform size, with internal grate B, door with air-register, the return-flue, and removable chimney, in combination with an external contraction from furnace and a removable connection therefrom to the flue, arranged so that it may alternately be used and removed, and the chimney substituted for it, substantially as set forth.
2. The cylinder-boiler constructed with internal furnace extending through it, of uniform size, the separate external contraction piece from furnace, the removable chimney with holder at top of boiler, the separate holdingrack, having legs connected by bent crossstraps at each end, and lengthwise bars, the door having air -register, the steam outlet pipe, the water and cleaning inlet, the safety- .valve, and steam-gage, as set forth.
