Description
BEDS PRING Apil 20, 1937. l. zlMET Filed March 14, 1936 BY 3 ATTORNEY i Patentedpr. 20, 1937 UNITED sTATEs BEDSPRING Isidoro zi'met, Brooklyn, N. Y.'
Application March 14, 1936, Serial No. 68,859 i 1 Claim. (Cl. 5-264) .i
My invention relates to bed springs,- and has reference more particularly to the novel means of attaching the cross bars to the main frame.
In the attached drawing forming part of this s application, Figure` 1 is a fragmentary top plan of a spring embodying my invention.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary 'plan of the bottom of the spring unit, only the bottom frame being shown and the bars attached thereto;. other parts being shown in dotted Alines or entirely eliminated to better show the invention, and
Figure 3 is a vertical section on line 3-3, Fligure 1.
Referring to the drawing', 5 is the main frame in the shape of a rectangle, preferably made of ang1eiron,'which at suitable intervals on its longer sides is provided with lugs 6 secured rigidly Y to the frame. Running transversely of the length of the frame 5 are cross bars 1, spaced so that the attened ends 3 of said bars will lie intermediate of the lugs 3.
To each attened end 8 of the bar 1 is secured a yoke 3. The proximate ends of the yokes 9 and the lugs 6 are interconnected by tension springs ID, all of said-springs normally lying in a plane parallel to the main frame 5 and acting atl substantially right angles to the bars 1. The bars 1, adjacent to the ends of the frame 5, have their yokes 3 connected to the frame di- 80 rectly by springs I0.
A secondary frame I3, also of a rectangular shape and made of angle iron, is. positioned above the main frame '5 where it is supported by compression coil springs IIv and I2 carried by the cross bars 1. At thevery ends of the cross bars,
. '.only springs II are provided for the said cross bars are bent at the ends, as bestI shown in Figure 3. In other words, at the extremities of the cross bars 1, there is no room for springs I2,
4o so that at the longer side of the frame 5 compression springs II ronly are used.
Running intermediate of the springs II (see Figure 1), are strips I4 running transversely of the secondary'frame i3, and strips I5 running longitudinally of said frame. In said Figure 1,
only one coil spring II is fully -shown in the corner; all the other springs are indicated by the upper loop of the coil spring so as to better illustrate the invention.
PATENT oFFl-CE f The overlapping parts o f the strips I4 and I5 are united by clips Il which serve also as an-v chors for tension springs I1, which unite the proximate top loops of coil springs I2 -to said clips. Each end of the strips I4 and I5 are connected to the vsecondary frame I3 by a tension spring I8.
Any pressure applied to the strips, and in con# sequence, to the secondary frame I3, is transposed by the coil'springs II and I2 to the cross frame intermediate of the bars, yokes provided on the end of the bars, tension springs lying in a plane substantially parallel to the frame and yokes, and running substantially parallel to the sides of the frame connecting the ends of the yokes to proximate lugs, a secondary frame, and
cushion springsl interposed between and opera'- tively connected to the secondary frame and the bars. n
