2 Claims.
This invention relates to ornamental constructions, and particularly to ornamental constructions having one or more molded-composition pieces mounted on a metal body-member.
One object of this invention is to provide an improved ornamental construction having molded composition pieces mounted on a metal bodymember by means of concealed attaching-means, in such manner as to give the maximum attractive appearance to the nished article.
With the above and other objects in view, this invention includes all improvements over the prior art which are disclosed in this application.
In the accompanying drawing, in which one way of carrying out the invention is shown for illustrative purposes:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view illustrating one embodiment of the invention and having moldedcomposition pieces mounted on a metal bodymember;
Fig. 2 is a fragmental perspective view of a portion of Fig. 1, with one of the molded-composition pieces removed;
Fig. 3 is a fragmental sectional view on line 3--3 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is a rear perspective View of one of the molded-composition pieces;
Fig. 5 is a front perspective view of one of the molded-composition pieces; and
Fig. 6 is a bottom plan View of one of the molded-composition pieces.
In the description and claims, the various parts are identied by specific names for convenience, but they are intended to be as generic in their application as the prior art will permit.
Referring to the drawing, an ash tray Ill is formed of sheet-metal and has a plurality of pieces of molded-composition, such, for example, as bakelite, in the form of cigar or cigarette rests II secured to the body-member I0. Each cigar rest II has an attaching-member I2 embedded therein when the molded-composition piece is manufactured.
The attaching-member I2, in the form shown in the drawing, consists of a threaded bolt, preferably having a head I3 which may, if desired, be in the form of a hexagon, or in any other desired form, preferably non-circular, in order to prevent rotation of the bolt I2.
The pieces II are secured in position by pass- 5 ing the bolts I2 through holes I4 in the rim I5 of the metal body-member IIJ and securing nuts I 6 on the ends of the bolts I2.
In order that the molded-composition pieces VI I may not project out unduly far beyond the rim I5, 10 f depressed areas Ii are formed in the rim I5 with edge-boundaries I8 and I9 a sufficient distance apart to receive therebetween the opposite sideedges 20 and 2l of a molded-composition piece.
The invention may be carried out in other 15 specific ways than that herein set forth without departing from the spirit and essential characteristics of the invention, and the present embodiment is, therefore, to be considered in all respects as illustrative and'not restrictive, and all 2G changes coming within the meaning and equivalency range of the appended claims are intended to be embraced therein.
I claim:
l. An ornamental construction comprising: a 25 metal body member; and one or more ornamental molded-composition pieces mounted on said body member and each having two legs and being of L-shape cross-section with one leg shaped to conform substantially to the side surface of the body 30 member and the other leg conforming to the top surface of the body member, each of said pieces being mounted by concealed threaded attaching means having part thereof molded in the piece.
2. An ash tray comprising: a metal body member including a rim; and one or more moldedcomposition cigar-rest pieces mounted on said rim and each havingtvvo legs and being of L- shape cross-section with one leg shaped to conform substantially to the side surface of the body member and the other leg conforming to the top surface of the body member, each of said pieces being mounted by concealed attaching means having part thereof molded in the piece.
