7 Claims.
My invention relates to a connecting device for a harness or jack lever.
An important object of the invention is to provide a connecting device which will not wear the harness or jack lever, in operation.
A further object of the invention is to provide a connecting device of the above mentioned character which may be placed upon the wire or like element leading to the harness frame,
Without the necessity of disconnecting the ends of the wire.
A further object of the invention is to provide a connecting device so constructed that the wire cannot become accidentally disconnected l5 therefrom.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this application, and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,

In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral iii designates the frame of a loom, upon which are mounted harness or jack levers l2, having notches [3. These harness or jack levers shift the harness frames, as is well known. The harness frame is raised by a wire l4, which is bent upon itself, forming a loop 115. One end of the wire is connected with the flexible strap l6, passing about a sheave H, and this flexible strap is attached to the harness frame near one end. The opposite end of the wire I4 is connected in a similar manner with a flexible element or strap 18, in turn connected with the harness frame near its opposite end. This wire serves to raise the harness frame, which is lowered by springs, not shown, as is well known. The foregoing construction is that of the conventional loom.
My connecting device embodies an elongated loop I9, closed at its outer end by a block 20, having an inner rounded face 2|. At its inner 1936, Serial No. 87,280
or opposite end, the loop is formed integral with the head 22, having a transverse recess 23, which receives the closed end of the loop A5. A transverse slot 24 is formed inone face 25 of the head 22, as shown. Theface25 of the head is so wide that it extends laterally beyond-the companion face 26, upon opposite sides thereof, affording extensions '21 and 28. The head 22 has a width substantially greater than the width of the closed end portion of the loop I5 and therefore projects laterally beyond the sides of the closed end portion of the loop I5, in a plane parallel with the plane of the loop l5. The slot 24 is disposed transversely of or at substantially a right angle to the longitudinal axis of the elongated loop Ill. The slot 24 is adjacent to the inner end wall of the recess 23. The narrow straight slot 24 and the extensions 21 and 28 render it impossible for the head 22 to become disconnected from theloop, when the head and loop are disposed in end-to-end relation, but the head may be applied to or removed from the loop by passing the slot 24, over oneside of the loop [5.
The numeral 29 designates a wear plate or bushing having a lug 30 to enter. a selected notch I3 on the harness or jack lever. ,This wear plate may be formed of fiber or the like. Opposite the lug 30 the wear plate has a curved recess or notch 3!, to receive the curved face 2| of the block 20,
Inapplying the connecting element to. the loom, the Wear plate 23 may be inserted into the loop IS with the curved face 2! engaging within thecurved notch iii. The loop is then inserted over the upper end of the harness or jack lever, and the lug 30 will fit within a selected notch I3.' Previous to this, the head 22 has been applied to the loop of the wire M.
In the operation, the pull upon the wire M will retain the connecting device in place upon the harness or jack lever, the wear plate 29 remaining fixed thereon, and the connecting device turning upon its curved face 2|. When the plate 29 wears, it may be removed and a new wear plate substituted. The wire l4 cannot become separated from the connecting device when the connecting device is upon the harness or jack lever. The loop 19 cannot thus become separated because the curved closed end of the loop l5 cannot pass through the straight slot 24. To effect the separation, the connecting device is first removed from the harness lever, and then moved around to a straight side of the loop so that this straight side may be passed through the narrow straight slot 24,
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of my invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A connecting device for a harness or jack lever, comprising a loop provided at one end with a curved face, a wear plate for insertion within the loop and having a curved notch to receive the curved face and a lug to engage within the notch of the lever, said loop and wear blade being adapted to be applied to the lever, and means connecting the loop with the harness frame so that the harness frame may be shifted by the lever.
2. The combination with the harness or jack lever of a loom, said lever having notches, a wear plate to be applied to the lever and having a lug to enter one notch of the lever and also having a notch, a connecting device applied to the wear plate and having a part to engage within the notch of the wear plate, and means connecting the connecting device with the harness frame of the loom.
3. A connecting device for a harness or jack lever of a loom, comprising a part to be mounted upon the lever, said part having a head provided with a wide face which extends laterally beyond said part for substantial distances upon both sides thereof, said head having a recess and a narrow slot leading into the recess, and a wire for connection with the loom harness and having a loop, the loop being held within the recess of the head, the closed end of the loop being incapable of passing through the straight slot while the sides of the loop may pass through the same.
4. A connecting device for a harness or jack' lever of a loom, said device comprising a body portion to be applied to the lever, said body portion having a loop, said loop having sides, one
side, the slotted side extending laterally beyond the sides of the wire loop near its closed end, said slot extending transversely of the longitudinal axis of the first named loop, said slot being relatively narrow and having its opposed walls spaced for a slight distance in excess of the diameter prising a body portion having a recess to receive the lever and a lug to enter a recess of the lever, said body portion also having a, loop, said loop having sides, one side having a slot extending transversely of the body portion, and a wire loop having sides and a closed end to be held within the loop of the connecting device, the slotted side extending substantially parallel with the plane of the wire loop and being substantially wider than the wire loop near its closed end, said slot being relatively narrow and having a width only slightly greater than the diameter of the wire of the wire loop, said slot having opposed walls which are substantially equal in length and extend throughout the maximum width of the slotted side.
6. A connecting device for a harness or jack lever of a loom having notches, said device comprising a body portion having a recess to receive the lever and a part to enter a recess of the lever, said body portion also having a loop, said loop having sides, one side having a slot extending transversely of the body portion, and a wire loop having sides and a closed end to be held within the loop of the connecting device, the slotted side being arranged in a plane which is substantially parallel with the plane of the wire loop and, projecting outwardly beyond one side of the wire loop for asubstantial distance, said slot being relatively narrow and having walls which are opposed for a distance slightly greater than the diameter of the wire of the wire loop, said walls being substantially of the same length.
7. A connectingdevice for a harness or jack lever of a loom, said device comprising a bodyportion having a recess to receive the lever and also having a loop, said loop having sides, one side having a transverse slot arranged adjacent to one end of the loop, and a wire loop having sides and a closed end and to be held within the loop of the connecting device so that the plane of the wire loop is substantially parallel with the planes of the sides, the slotted side extending laterally and outwardly for a substantial distance beyond one side of the wire loop, said slot having substantially straight opposed walls which are spaced for a distance slightly greater than the diameter of the wire forming the wire loop, the
walls being substantially the same length and extending throughout that portion of the slotted side having the maximum width.
