Description

J. T. MORRIS DISPENSER Filed lay a. 1935 March 9 '1 937. 7
INVENTOR. 17 T. M02775,
A TTORNE Y.
Patented Mar. 9, 1937 STATES PATENT orifice DISPENSER John T. Morris, Los Angeles, Calif.
Application May 3, 1935, Serial No. 19,681
2 Claims.
This invention relates to dispensers for dispensing cosmetics, talcums, dentifrices, shaving cream, deodorants and the like.
The general object of the invention is to pro- 5 vide a dispenser of the character stated which may be conveniently carried in a ladys hand bag and easily and effectively operated for dispensing its contents.
A more particular object is to provide a dispenser of the character stated which is simple in construction, inexpensive and very practical in operation.
Other objects and advantages will appear hereinafter.
The invention is illustrated in the annexed drawing which forms a part of this specification and in which,
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section of one form of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a cross section of my invention as shown in Fig. 1, taken on line 22 of Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, in which corresponding parts are designated by the same reference characters in all of the figures, my dispenser, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, comprises a container I, a screw cap 2 on the mouth end of said container, and a dispensing valve 3 in said cap controlling an outlet 4 in the end wall 5 of said cap. The container I may be of any suitable shape, such as cylindrical, as shown in Fig. 2, and is closed at its rear end by an end wall 6, while its forward mouth end is provided with an internal screw thread I, which is engaged by an external screw thread 8 on the inner reduced end portion 9 of the cap 2, the outer portion of said cap being formed with an external diameter I8, corresponding to the external diameter of the container I, and with a forwardlytapering forward end portion l0, there being an external annular shoulder II between said inner reduced end portion 9 and said external diameter I0, so that the cap may be screwed into the threaded forward end of said container with said shoulder tightly engaging the forward edge of said container and effectively sealing the mouth,
said slide bearing for normally holding the valve 3 against its seat on the inner edge of the outlet 4 and closing said outlet to prevent escape of the contents from the container I through said outlet. 7
The operation, uses and advantages of'my invention are as follows:
Face powder, tooth powder or the like is placed in the container I, upon unscrewing the cap 2 from the container. The cap is then screwed on the threaded end of the container until the cap shoulder I I engages the edge of the container at said end tightly and seals said end of the container against the escape of the contents of the container, while the valve 3 closes'the outlet 4 in thecap, under the influence of the spring I6.
When it is desired to dispense the powder, for example, face powder, from the container, the dispenser is held with its cap end downward, and the valve head I2 is pressed against a powder puff or applicator, whereupon the valve 3 is pressed inwardly into the cap 2 against the tension of the spring I6, which opens the outlet 4 and allows the powder to pass out of the dispenser through said outlet onto the powder puff or applicator, the valve head I2 being of such area as to spread the point of contact of the powder puff or applicator with the valve 3 sufficiently to prevent the powder puff or applicator from closing the outlet 4 while said valve is in its open position. The dispenser is then removed from the powder puff or applicator and the valve 3 automatically closes the outlet 4 under the influence of the spring I6. The powder puif or applicator, with the dispensed powder thereon, may then be applied to the face of the user.
If the powder should pack and stick in the container so that it will not pass out of the container through the outlet 4 when opened by the valve 3, the head I2 of the valve may be tapped against the powder puif or applicator to reciprocate the valve stem I3 to agitate and loosen the powder in the container, so that the powder will readily escape from the container through said open outlet.
The tapered forward outer end portion ID of the cap 2 presents a small surface area of the cap around the valve 3 and outlet 4, which prevents any appreciable amount of powder adhering to the outer end of the cap.
I claim as my invention:
1. A dispenser comprising a container formed with an internal thread in its mouth end, a cap for said end of said container formed with an external thread, for engaging said internal thread, and with an external shoulder at the inner end of said external thread for engaging the edge of said mouth end of said container, said cap being provided with an outlet, an outwardly-tapered valve, for controlling said outlet, formed with a head on its outer end for depressing said valve off its seat to open said outlet, a valve stem projecting from said valve, a slide bearing mounted in said cap, in which bearing said stem is slidably mounted, and a spring between said valve and said bearing for normally holding said valve on its seat closing said outlet.
2. A dispenser comprising a container, a cap for one end of said container provided with an outlet in its outer end, an outwardly-tapered valve, for controlling said outlet, formed with a head on its outer end for depressing said valve ofi its seat to open said outlet, a valve stem projecting from said valve into said container, a slide bearing mounted in said cap, in which bearing said stem is slidably mounted, and a spring between said valve and said bearing for normally 10 holding said valve on its seat closing said outlet.
