OOLLAPSIBLE FLOWER BOX IN WHICH TO GROW PLANTS Victor Sidney Dodson, London, England Application October 24, 1936, Serial No. 107,441 In Great Britain November 5, 1935 2 Claims. The invention relates to a collapsible flower box, in which to grow plants constructed of five sections, its object being to provide an efiective durable and simple construction which may be easily assembled when required for use, and also easily disassembled or knocked down for transport or storage purposes. 7
According to this invention the box comprises two independent side sections, an independent bottom section, and two independent end sections, the end sections being grooved for the greater part of their depth to receive the ends of the side sections and recessed or channelled in the centre from the top almost to the bottom to receive the ends of the bottom section which rest on the unchannelled parts of the end sections.
A practical construction according to the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is an elevation of the assembled box; Fig. 2 is a plan of same; Figs. 3 and 3a show the bottom section in plan and elevation; Figs. 4 and 5 are a side elevation and plan respectively of a side section; Figs. 6 and 6a show an end section in elevation and plan, the elevation being turned on its side so that the unrecessed and ungrooved bottom comes vertical; Fig. 7 is a section on line XY of Fig. 1.
A represents each end, B the sides and C the '30 bottom sections. The bottom section C is shown reduced in size at each end to fit into the corresponding partly recessed or channelled end sections A.
The sides B are bevelled so as to slide into the corresponding partly grooved end section A.
The box comprises five sections, namely two end sections A, two side sections B and one bottom section C, each section being independently constructed.
Each end section A is partly recessed or channelled from the top to near the bottom to receive the bottom section C and also grooved to receive 5' the side sections B. The recess and grooves do not extend quite to the bottom of the box so that the unrecessed and ungrooved parts form bottom supports for the sections B and C. The box so constructed is frost-proof, providing an air space 10 underneath and allows of drainage.
To assemble the box the side sections B slide into the corresponding partly grooved end sections A and the bottom section 0 slides into the corresponding partly recessed or channelled portion of the same end sections A. The box may be constructed of reinforced cement or otherwise.
I claim:-
1. A collapsible flower box in which to grow plants comprising two independent side sections, 20
an independent bottom section and two independent end sections, grooves in said end sections, said grooves extending for the greater part of the height of said end sections to receive, the ends of the side sections, channels in the centre of said end sections from the top to nearly the bottom thereof for receiving the ends of the bottom section, said ends resting on the unchannelled part of said end sections.
2. A collapsible flower box as claimed in claim 1 including bevels on the ends of the side sections, the ends of the bottom section being reduced in width, the grooves and channels in the end sections being correspondingly shaped, substantially as described. 35
