Description

C. KRAFT Filed Dec. 29, 1933 Feb. 2, 1937.
Patented Feb. 2, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
It is an object of my invention to provide a toy top which will contain within itself a number of peg points so that the players may from time to time change the peg points and thus obtain a number of different spinning characteristics for the top, namely, some peg points will cause the top to spin in one limited radius, whereas other peg points will cause the top to travel in one direction or another depending upon the shape and size of the peg points.
It is my further object toprovide a cartridge within the body proper which will be sufilciently large to hold these difierent peg points securely within it, and I also provide a chuck portion preferably screw threaded into the cartridge which will give access to the different peg points and also be provided with a hole or opening in which any of the peg points may be from time to time inserted to give the different spinning characteristics.
My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawing in which like figures refer to like parts.
In Figure 1 is illustrated a sectional elevation 5 of my invention.
Figure 2 is a plan view along the plan ZZ of Figure 1.
By reference to the drawing, l is the Wooden top body; 2, the metal ring to give the top mass and to prevent wood splitting. 3 is the recess to hold the extra pegs shown at 4 which may be of all difierent shapes. 5 is the chuck containing the hole 1 to receive the peg 6 in position for spinning.
It must be understood that chuck 5 may be split so that it may be force-fitted into recess 3, and at the same time tightly hold peg 6 in spinning position. Other and various modifications of the method of holding the pegs in spinning position in the top proper may, of course, be employed without departing from the scope and intent of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
A toy top comprising a top body, an axially disposed recess therein, a plurality of top pegs of different shapes adapted to be contained in said recess, a chuck adapted to close said recess at the spinning end thereof and simultaneously to accept and securely hold any one of said pegs in operating position.
