1 Claim. (Cl. 22060) This invention relates generally to containers and more particularly to a-novel type of sealing means especially designed for use with containers of the characterdisclosed in my pending application for Dispensing container, filed April 27, 1932,

One object of the invention is to provide 'a tamper-proof sealing means-for a container of this sort which provides a seal measuring up to the most'rigid requirements and-yet simple and inexpensive in its construction and susceptible of being readily applied, without danger of distorting or in any way impairing the releasable closure cap embraced by the seal.
The present invention proposes a sealing means in the form of a cap which fits down over the releasable closure provided for the outlet fitting of the container. Sealing of the cap is eifected by crimping the lower end portionof the flange thereof inwardly and consequently into interlocking relation with the outlet fitting. The seal may be broken and the sealing cap removed by tearing or detaching 'a tab outlined on the cap by lines of tear and effectively splitting the cap when pulled or torn from the remainder thereof. The use of a cap so clinched is made possible by the provision in the flange of the cap of an annular groove which is disposed opposite or in confronting relation to the lugs or other fastening elements employed to releasably hold the removable closure to the outlet fitting. By accommodating the lugs or other fastening elements in the groove and clinching the portions of the cap inwardly below the groove distortion or im- 35 pairment of the lugs or fastening structure is avoided.
It is to be understood that the invention is not restricted to any particular typeof releasable closure although a cap which may be snapped or 40 pressed onto and off of the outlet fitting may be advantageously used. A screw connection,
bayonet joint connection or any other type of connection may be employed between the removable closure and the outlet fitting. 45 Other objects and advantages reside in certain novel features of the construction, arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly point-- 60 ed out in the appended claim, reference being had of this specification, and in which:

Referring to the drawing, the numeral I designates the body portion of the container which may be of cylindrical form and have a lower head or bottom of any suitable construction.
The upper head designated at 3 is secured to the 15 upper end of the .bodyportion as at 4 and has a plain flat horizontal portion 5 and an inclined beaded as at 8 and part flanged as at 9 and pressed firmly into engagement with the seam .4. The flanged portion B-is engaged with an outwardly pressed portion of the upper end of the body portion of the container so that the pouring lip that the flanged portion of the spout defines lies outwardly beyond the peripheral wall Preferably, the spout 6 is formed with inturned lips 6' which aid in forming a well defined stream and tend to preclude splashing or uncontrolled movements of the liquid being dispensed from the container.
The outlet opening of the container is provided with an outlet fitting or neck l0 having the form of a short tube or sleeve, the inner end of which is inter-seamed or inter-crimped with the portion of the head 3 and with the portion 1 of the spout, as will be clear from the drawing. Intermediate its ends the tube III has a cormgation l3 and its upper end is rolled over to provide a gasket seat I I. J A closure I5 is provided and has a peripheral flange it formed with an inturned lower edge IT. The peripheral flange l6 and its inturned lower edges are provided with angularly spaced slots so that the portions between the slots may flex 5 to permit the inturned lower edge or the lug-like member defined between the slots to be snapped into locking engagement with the shoulder l8 presented by a portion of the tube III which defines the corrugations. A gaslret G is provided in the closure cap 15. with this construction, by pressing on the center of the body portion I5, the body portion will be buckled by a snap action and the enclosure may be disengaged. This is the conventional type of closure cap widely used and per se forms no part of the invention.
The present invention proposes the provision of a sealing cap designated generally at 20 and having a somewhat dome-shaped top plate 2| and an annular peripheral flange 22. Incisions or lines of tearr23 are made in the top plate and flange of the cap to provide a tearing tab 24 to be torn from the cap when the seal is to be broken. Portions of the lines of tear or insertions are carried'all the way through the cap so that one end of the tab, which is slightly upturned and designated at 25, may be conveniently grasped when the tab is to be torn from the cap to break the seal. Intermediate its ends the flange 22 is corrugated to provide an internal annular groove 26.
When the container is sealed the sealing cap is fitted over the outlet fitting and its closure and in such position the groove 26 is adjacent or opposite the locking portions of the closure [5. To seal the cap in position its lower end portion 21- is crimped inwardly to effectively lock it in position. Since the groove 28 accommodates the looking or holding elements of the closure this inward crimping of the portion 21 will not impair the structure or efficiency of this holding structure so that when the seal is removed the closure may be applied and removed without loss of efliciency or without danger of its being accidentally misplaced. With this construction, a sealing means measuring up to the most rigid requirements is provided and yet is simple and inexpensive in its construction and capable of being readily applied in sealing position. Its application and removal are not liable to distort the closureor to impair the eflicacy of the latter in any way.
While I have shown and described one construction in which the invention may be embodied, it is to be understood that the construction shown has been selected merely for the purposes of illustration and that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of the parts may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
The invention claimed is:
In combination with a container having an outlet fitting and a flexing closure therefor comprising a cap having a central domed portion and depending locking fingers operated by a flexing movement of the dome and interengaged with said fitting, a sealing cap enclosing said fitting and its closure and having portions interlocked therewith to provide an efiective seal, said sealing cap having an internal groove disposed adjacent and in such tranverse relation to the locking fingers as to accommodate the latter and prevent impairment thereof when said portions of said cap are interlocked with said fitting.
