For a complete understanding oi my invention, reference is to be had to the following descrip- :tion and accompanying drawing. in which Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view illustrating a hair drier constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 't-i of Figure 1.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral i indicates a casing divided into chambers 2 and t. A fan il of any desired character is mounted in the chamber 3, the outlet of which ls indicated by the character h and extends into the chamber t so that air is taken from the chamber t and forced into the chamber 2 and escapes therefrom by a pipe t. A flexible hose 'l is connected to the pipe t and has connected thereto a hood or nozzle t capable of fitting over a persons head. A damper or valve t is located in the pipe t and may be adjusted for regulating the flow of air from the chamber 2 to the hood t. A vent pipe it communicates with the chamber i and with the atmosphere and has a gate valve il which may be readily adjusted into open and closed position.
Carried by the hood 8 and of 'a shape similar to the latter is a casing i2 dening between itself and the hood t an air passage i3 having an outlet nipple lli to which is connected' a flexible pipe l5. The other end of the flexible pipe is connected to a hood i6 arranged in communication with the chamber 3. A lter l l is placed between the hood it and the interior of the chamber d. The hood also is equipped with a gate valve it which may be opened to establish communication between the atmosphere and the interior of the hood it.
l'I'he filter l'l may be of any desired construction and of any suitable material. The' casing i2 l projects slightly beyond the discharge opening of (El. 34u26) a persons head may p therefrom through the passage ld and pipe it to the chamber t by the suction of the fan il. The air on passing into the chamber t is hltered so that foreign matter is removed therefrom before being expelled into the chamber t.
Arranged in the chamber 2 is an absorbent bed it for the air to contact with during movement to the chamber 2 from the chamber t to the pipe d. Any desired material may be employed in the ccnstruction of the absorbent bed which acts to re move from the air moisture so that the air de-` livered to thev persons head by the hood t will have its moisture content lowered to a minimum. A cooling coll il@ is located in the pipe d over which the air from the chamber t must pass on its way to the hood t. e cooling coil acts to lower` the temperature of the air and it is preferable that this air be oi a temperature ci substantially blood heat so that the air contacting the head of the person will be oi' substantially the same temperature as or the person to free the person of discomfort either from air of too high or too low a temperature. The air also having its moisture content reduced to a tot.: by the absorbing bed it will more thoroughly and quickly dry the hair of a person.

After the device has been in use for a period of time, the absorbent bed must be freed' of the moisture collected and to accomplish this a heatlng device't'i of any desired construction is arranged in the chamber t and may or maynot be therrnosta'tically controlled and automatically lighted or extinguished. rlhe heating device will rapidly dry the absorbent bed of moisture and during this operation the gate valve d is closed and the gate valve i i is opened so that the drying air may pass to the atmosphere.
During the use of the device for the purpose of drying hair should it be desirable to obtain air to the chamber d directly from the atmosphere, the gate valve it may be opened.

A hair drier comprising a casing having a vertically arranged chamber and a fan chamber connecting with the lower end of the vertcal'chamber, said vertical chamber having opposed outlets adjacent the upper ends thereof. valves for controlling s-aid outlets, a head engaging means connected to one of said outlets, means connecting said head engaging means to the fan chamber,
chamber and each including connected parallel portions to intercept the air passing through the vertical chamber. and cooling coils extending substantially the full lengths of the absorbent beds and embedded therein.
