Description

Dec. 15, 1936. R BROWN 2,064,726
' ATCMIZER Filed April 28, 1936 2 Sheets-Sheet 1 I nvenlor Dec. 15, 1936. w. R. BROWN AT MI ZER Filed April 28, 1936 2 Sheets-Sheet Patented Dec. 15, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in atomizers for various fluids such as medicines and perfumes and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a device of this character embodying novel'means through the medium of which only a predetermined quantity of the fluid may be dispensed at a time thereby eliminating waste.
Other objects of the invention are to provide an atomizer of the aforementioned character which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, highly efficient and reliable in use, compact and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views and wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of the invention.
Figure 2 is a detail view in side elevation of the removable unit.
Figure 3 is a view in horizontal section, taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 2 and looking upwardly, as indicated by the arrows.
Figure 4 is a horizontal sectional view taken substantially on the line 4--4 of Figure 2 and looking downwardly, as indicated by the arrows.
Figure 5 is a view in vertical section through the invention.
Figure 6 is a vertical sectional view, showing the device tilted in a manner to fill the measuring reservoir or cup.
Figure '7 is a view in front elevation of the removable unit.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a container l of suitable material and capacity, said container being preferably, but not necessarily, of the shape shown to advantage in Figure 1 of the drawings. The container l is adapted to be filled to the desired level with the fluid to be dispensed, as at 2.
Mounted on top of the container l is a removable dispensing unit which is designated generally by the reference numeral 3. The unit 3 comprises a closure 4 which includes a threaded shank 5 which is screwed into the top portion 6 of the container I. It will be observed that the closure 4 and the top portion 6 are formed to provide a ball.
The unit 3 further includes an angular discharge tube 1 having mounted on one end a collapsible rubber bulb 8. Suspended by hangers 9 from the lower end of the shank 5 of the closure 4 is a measuring cup [0. The reference numeral I I designates a Venturi tube which extends downwardly from the discharge tube 1 into the measuring cup or reservoir [0.
It is thought that the operation of the invention will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. To dispense a predetermined quantity of the fluid 2, according to the capacity of the measuring cup or reservoir ID, the container is tilted to substantially the position shown in Figure 6 of the drawings and then returned to an upright position, thus filling said measuring cup or reservoir H). The bulb 8 is then squeezed in the usual manner to force a stream of air through the tube 1 past the upper end of the tube II, thus drawing the fluid upwardly out of the measuring cup or reservoir In, said fluid of course, being discharged from the open end of said tube 1. To refill the container I, it is only necessary to remove the unit 3.
It is believed that the many advantages of an atomizer constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood and although a preferred embodiment of the device is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is:
An atomizer of the class described comprising a container for the reception of a fluid, and a dispensing unit removably mounted on said container, said unit comprising a closure including a shank threadedly engaged in the container, hangers depending from the lower end of said shank, a measuring cup mounted on said hangers for the reception of the fluid, an angular discharge tube extending transversely through the closure, a collapsible rubber bulbon one end of said tube, and a Venturi tube mounted in the closure and having one end connected to the first named tube and its other end engaged in the measuring cup for receiving the fluid from said measuring cup.
