This invention relates to a so-called hook or connector for joining a bracelet to a wrist watch, more particularly a baguette watch of an elongated and rather narrow dimension; and has for one of its objects the provision of such connection which will be securely held against detachment from the watch through any movement which-it: may have with reference to the watch.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a hook for the baguette watch which will be prevented from turning out of the longitudinal alignment which it is desired that the same should assume, thereby preventing liability of accidental disengagement and strain on the parts to return them to position should such turning occur.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a hook which will have freedom of rocking movement in a longitudinal direction about the lug as a center, although be prevented from turning movement laterally of the length of the chain.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a hook which will maintain its proper longitudinal relation" by being prevented from sliding longitudinally with reference to the watch.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a cross bar adjacent the closed end of the hook for strengthening the same particularly at its point of bending for engagement to or disengagement from the watch.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a hcok'which may be assembled upon a baguette watch in the same manner as hooks which have heretofore been used.
A still further object 'of the invention is the provision of a hook, which will be simple and inexpensive to manufacture and-which will provide these results.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novelfeatures of construction, as will be more fully described, and
particularly pointed out in theappended claims.

In the use of hooks or connectors for joining a bracelet to a baguette watch, it frequently occurs that the hook will become twisted laterally at right angles to the watch, and when in such position the sheet metal'loop into which the fingers extend may be worked out between the fingers to permit disengagement of the hook from the watch; and in order that this may be prevented and the hook maintained in its preferred or proper position of alignment as well as in such relation as 'to prevent longitudinal movement of the hook in the lug of the watch, I have provided abutment means which will engage the outer surface of the lug to prevent turning of the hook with reference thereto; and I have also strengthened the hook by the provision of a bar adjacent its closed end, which assists in supporting the side portions of the hook at their point of bending which must occur for attaching or detaching of the hook from position on the watch; and the following is a more detailed description of the present embodiment of this invention, illustrating the preferred means by which these advantageous results may be accomplished.
With reference to the drawing, ll'l designates a baguette watch having lugs II at either end thereof, which consists substantially of a sheet metal loop providing a suitable eye or opening into which a portion of the hook to be connected thereto may be inserted. The bracelet which is to be connected to the watch is designated 12 and consists of a plurality of links l3, joined together by connectors I4 extending through and about portions at each end thereof.
In order that this bracelet may be connected to the lug II, I have provided a hook designated generally [5 and which is shown in greater detail in Figures 2 and 3, as consisting of side portions l6 which are connected together at one end by a cross bar ll of a thickness less than the portions l6 so that its top surface will be sufiiciently below the top of the surface I 8 to receive the connector M in a position so that the top surface thereof will be flush with the top surface of the portion 16.
At the opposite end of the side portion l6 fingers 2|] are provided extending inwardly from the opposite side portions toward each other and which are of a size to enter the eye 2! of the lug I l by bending the side portions l6 which are spread apart, as shown in Figure 2 into substantially parallel relation as shown in Figure 3, which movement causes the ends of the fingers 20 to approach each other and almost contact.
In order to strengthen the hook at the point of bending 23, as shown in Figure 2, Ihave provided a strengthening bar 24 extending between the side portions 16. This bar is substantially parallel with and spaced from the bar I! a distance sufiicient to provide a space 25 to receive the connecting link I 4, and this bar also assistsjnclosefl;

In order that the hook may not turn laterally with reference to the lug of the baguette watch, I have provided projections 26 extending inwardly from each of the side portions IQ of thehook. These projections, as shown in Figures 2 and 3, are of elongated shape and provide a-web portion also substantially filling the space throughout their extent between the side portions '16. Their end surfaces 21, however, provide an abut,- ment to prevent the lateral turning of the hook with reference to the lug and arepositioneda sufiicient distance from the fingers to receive the sheet metal lug between therfingers and the abutment surfaces 21. These abutment surfaces also prevent longitudinal movement of the hook toward the watch to such an extent as to be undesirable, and thus not only prevent lateral turning, but minimize the longitudinal movement to a desirable extent.
In a hook of this character, in the modified form shown in Figure 5, I illustrate the abutments as formed by projections 30 extending a lesser distance than the projection 26 and leaving a greater opening, such as 3|, between the side portions which is optional and a matter of choice for causing the hook to match up to the different bracelets which may be formed of Va.- riously constructed links.
The hook is attached to the watch in the same manner as hooks heretofore and may be formed by machine operation in multiples and will be of stronger construction by reason of the cross bar and the limiting means of the abutments 21 than has heretofore been provided.
The foregoing description is directed solely towards the construction illustrated, but I desire it to be understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to all the mechanical changes to which the device is susceptible, the invention being defined and limited only by the terms of :the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A hook for a baguette watch having a loop shaped lug, comprising a member having spaced side portions, a connecting bar at oneend, fingers extending inwardly at right angles from-theside portions at the other end for enteringsaid loopshaped lug from opposite sides to engage the inher surface thereof, and means providing abutments spaced from said fingers and sufficiently close thereto to engage the outer-surface of said mg and prevent material lateral turning to maintain the hook in generally aligned relation with said lug.
2. A hook fora baguette watch having a loopshaped lug, comprising a member having spaced :side; bendable portions, a connecting bar at one end, fingers extending inwardly from the side portions at the other end for entering said loopinner surface thereof, and a strengthening bar adjacent said first said bar and spaced therefrom a distance sufficient to permit of a connector being placed between said bars, said fingers being sufficiently close to each. other so as to prevent removal or entrance of the loop-shaped lug without the side portions beingv spread apart.
4. A book for a baguette watch having'a loopshaped lug, comprising a member having spaced side portions, a connecting'bar at one end, fingers extending inwardly at substantially right angles from the side portions at the other end for entering said loop-shaped lug from opposite sides-to engage the inner surface thereof; and meansproother end for entering said loop-shaped lug from opposite sides to engage the inner surface thereof, and means providing abutments spaced from said fingers to engage the outer surface'of said lug and prevent material turning laterally to maintain the hook in generally aligned relation with said lug, and a strengthening bar adjacent said first said bar and spaced therefrom a distance'suflicient to' permit of a connector being placedbetween said bars. v
6. A-hookfor a baguette watch having aloopshaped lug, comprising a member having spaced side portions, 8. connecting bar at one end, fingers extending inwardly from the side portions at the other end for enteringsaid loop-shaped lug from opposite sides to engage the inner surface thereof and projections extending inwardly from said opposite side portions spaced from said fingers for the reception of said lug and providing abutments sufiiciently close to said fingers to prevent matesaid lug, and a strengthening bar adjacent said first said bar and spaced therefrom a distance sufiicient to permit of a connector being placed between said bus.
7. A hook for a baguette watch having a looprial lateral turning of said hook with relation to said fingers to prevent material lateral turning of said hook relative to said lug, said fingers being but sufiiciently close to each other so as to prevent removal or entrance of the loop-shaped lug without the side portions being spread apart.
8. A hook for a baguette watch having a loopshaped lug, comprising a member having spaced side portions, a connecting bar at one end, fingers extending inwardly at right angles from the side 10 portions at the other end for entering said loopshaped lug from opposite sides to engage the inner surface thereof, and projections extending inwardly from said opposite side portions spaced from said fingers for the reception of said lug and providing abutments sufficiently close to said fingers to prevent material lateral turning of said hook with relation to said lug, said projections forming webs substantially filling the space between said portions.
