POOL BALL FRAME Filed March 26, 1936 \nverfl'or.
Bedros Girclgosiqn byMWK W Patented Nov. 10, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to pool ball frames such as are used for positioning the pool balls in a group on the pool table when a game of pool is to be played, and the object of the invention is to provide an improved pool ball rack which is constructed with a circular rim or handhold by which the manipulation of the rack and the placing of it on and the taking of it off the table can be facilitated.
In order to give an understanding of the invention I have illustrated in the drawing a selected embodiment thereof which will now be described after which the novel features will be pointed out in the appended claim.
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a pool frame embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged section on the line 2--2, Fig. 1.
The pool ball frame herein shown comprises a triangular-shaped body portion l providing within it the triangular-shaped opening 2 in which the pool balls 3, shown in dotted lines, are placed when they are to be arranged on the table prior to the beginning of a game of pool. The body I is in the form of a vertical wall having the proper height and the lower edge thereof is shown as thickened slightly, as indicated at 4.
Extending outwardly from the triangular wall I near its upper end is a substantially horizontal annular flange 5 which has a circular periphery. Although this flange 5 extends outwardly from the wall I in a generally horizontal direction, yet it inclines upwardly slightly, and the peripheral edge of the flange is formed to present a handhold portion 6 which is circular in cross section and which provides a convenient handle portion by which the frame can be transported or manipulated.
The flange 5 is so designed that the triangular body I is situated centrally of the peripheral handhold portion 6. The frame herein shown may be made of any suitable material and the body portion I and flange 5 with its rim 6 may be made as an integral structure or may be in sepa- 5 rate parts secured together.
I will preferably make the body I, flange 5 and rim 6 as an integral structure, and it may be conveniently molded from a rubber compound or from any other suitable moldable material, al- 10 though it would be within my invention to make it of wood or of metal if desired.
In order to reduce the weight of the device and also to give it an ornamental appearance, I may make the flange 5 with a plurality of openings I, as shown best in Fig. 1.
In making the device the upward inclination of the flange 5 will preferably be such that the rim 6 of the flange which constitutes the handhold will be situated slightly above the upper edge of the body I.
In using the frame it will be grasped by the handhold portion 6 with either one hand or two hands, and as this extends clear around the frame it is possible to grasp the handhold portion 6 at any point around the periphery of the device, thereby making the manipulating and handling of the frame easier than in the case of the ordinary pool ball frame now in use.
I claim:
A pool ball frame comprising a continuous vertical wall enclosing a triangular space, said Wall having integral therewith near its upper edge an outwardly-extending flange, and said flange having integral therewith at its periphery a continuous circular handhold portion thicker than the flange and which is circular in cross section.
