21 Claimsl This invention relates to automatic shoe polishing machines.
, An important object of the invention is to provide a novel automatic machine operative for applying polishing material to the shoes and subsequently polishing them.
A further object is to provide an automatic machine of the character referred to wherein polish is automatically applied to brushes which in turn transfer the polish to the shoes, whereupon the polish applying brushes move out of contact with the shoes and polishing brushes move into contact therewith to perform the polishing operation.
A further object is to provide atraveling polishing unit for each shoe operative in an orbital path around each shoe and each including polish-applying and polishing brushes, automatic operating and controlling means being provided for applying polish to each shoe during one or more complete movements of each polishing unit around the shoe, and then for moving the polish-applying brushes out of engagement with the shoes while the polishing brushes remain in contact therewith during one or more complete movements of the polishing units around the shoes.
A further object is to provide a machine of the character referred towhich is operative automatically for performing the successive operations of brushing the shoes to remove dust and dirt therefrom, applying polish to the shoes, and then efiiciently polishing the shoes, after which the apparatus automatically stops pending further operation which may be initiated through the insertion of a coin in a suitable coin contr mechanism.
A- further object is to provide a novel toe polishing mechanism wherein brushes traveling across the toe portions of the shoes are caused to first apply polish to the shoes and then to perform the polishing operation thereon.
A further object is to provide toe .polishing' units each embodying a plurality of brushes one of which applies polishing material to the toe portions of one shoe and another of which performs the polishing operation, and to provide automatic means for causing the brushes referred to to successively perform their operations.
A further object is to provide toe polishingunits of the character referred to wherein the brushes of each unit are mounted for movement for oscillating them Within limitedranges of movement for performing the polish-applying and polishing operations, and to further provide means for bodily moving each brush about its vertical axis to first move the polish-applying Q brush of each unit into contact with the corre- 5 sponding shoe and then to move the polishing brush into such operative position.
A further object is to provide toe polishing means of the character referred to having suitable mechanism for constantly oscillating the la brushing units about their vertical axes, and to provide automatic means for bodily moving the units in the manner and for the purpose stated, means being further provided prior to the movement of the polish-applying brush into engagein ment with the shoe for transmitting polishing material thereto.
A further object is to provide novel polishapplying means for the toe polishing units whereby each polish-applying brush, during its initial movement oscillates over and in engagement with the polish supplying means, the latter device being so constructed as to efficiently supply polish to each polish-applying brush and to permit such brush to pass out of engagement therewith without -any splashing of the polishing material.
A further object is to provide a novel shoe polishing apparatus embodying traveling brush units automatically operative around orbital paths corresponding generally in shape to the shape of each shoe, and to provide automatic means for polishing the toe portions of the shoes, means being further provided for moving the ,toe
