INVENTOR a M 7 w b VHTNESS ATTORNEY Patented Nov. 3, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims.
The invention relates to a display case and more especially to a merchandise display stand having adjustable partitions or dividers.
The primary object of the invention is the pro-' vision of a case or stand of this character, wherein the construction thereof is an improvement over the subject matter of Letters Patent No.
1,863,516 issued June 17, 1932, covering a display device.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a case or stand of this character, wherein through the use of a plurality of dividers separated compartments of varying capacities will be created at the top of the case or stand for exhibiting merchandise, these partitions or dividers being securely held in adjusted position in a novel manner and will be firmly clamped in vertical relation to each other to present therebetween tray areas in the case or stand for accommodating merchandise to be displayed.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a case or stand, wherein the construction thereof is such that a compartment or compartments effected therein may be widened or narrowed as may be required.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a case or stand of this character, which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and effective in its purpose, readily and easily adjusted for varying the capacities of the tray areas or compartments as created therein, strong, durable, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which disclose the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the case or stand constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary vertical longitudinal sectional view thereof.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional view on the line 3-3 of Figure 2 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary sectional view on the line 4--4 of Figure 2 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 5 is a bottom plan view partly in section.
Figure 6 is a perspective view of one of the adjustable retaining bars of the case or stand.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the case or stand comprises a frame-like body A functioning as a counter having vertical side and end walls In and I I, respectively, these being joined at their meeting ends in any suitable manner and such body may be of any desirable size, in this instance of substantially rectangular shape having fixed therein at its top opposed spaced parallel horizontally arrange-d guide rails I2, these providing tracks for a plurality of adjustable bars I3 intermediate of outer stationary and slidable pieces I4 and I5, respectively. The slidable piece I5 has trackage on the rails [2, there being the tongue and groove connection I6 between these bars I3 and said piece I5 with the rails I2.
Associated with the slidable piece I5 is an overlapping plate I! which is made secure to an end cross rail I8 suitably fixed at the end next thereto of the counter A.
Adapted for insertion between selected bars I3 are dividers I9, these preferably being formed from glass or other transparent material and create therebetween compartments or tray areas for accommodating merchandise. The bars I3 and pieces I4 and I5 afford a bottom to the compartment or tray area. The dividers I9 are clamped in perpendicular position through the adjustment of the bars I3 cooperating with the sliding piece I5 which has fitted therein a feed nut 20 threaded upon a feed screw 2I loosely passed through a guideway 22 as provided in the piece I5 and the said bars I3, respectively. This feed screw 2| is formed with a peripherally knurled circular shaped adjusting head or wheel 23 exposed upwardly through a slot 24 provided in the plate I1, the slot being adapted as a clearance for the head or wheel 23 so that it can be manually turned. On manual adjustment of the head or wheel 23 the slide I5 can be shifted for coaction with the bars I3 to release or clamp the dividers I 9 as selectively disposed between certain of the bars I3 according to the sizes of the tray areas or compartments needed for the display of merchandise when placed Within these areas or compartments.
Located at opposite ends and at one side of the counter A are clips 25 for the fitting of retaining or guard pieces 26 with the stand or case as will be apparent from Figure l of the drawings.
The sliding piece I5 functions as a follower in the working of the case or stand and thus as will appear the adjustment hereinbefore set forth enables the narrowing and widening of the tray areas or compartments for a successful display, adequate storage for commodities or merchandise.
What is claimed is:
1. A case or stand of the character described comprising a counter-like body, track rails arranged opposite each other in spaced parallel relation within said body at its top, a plurality of bars movably fitted on said track rails, stationary pieces fixed to the ends of the track rails, a slidable piece mounted between the bars and one stationary piece, the sliding piece having trackage on said rails, dividers selectively engageable between the bars and pieces next thereto, and means manually operable for shifting the sliding piece for the clamping and unclamping of the dividers with respect to the bars and said pieces and including a feed screw mounted on an adjacent stationary piece to prevent longitudinal movement, a nut fitted in and held against turning by the sliding piece and a knurled head on the screw for causing the sliding piece to move on the rails relative to the stationary piece.
2. A case or stand of the character described comprising a counter-like body, track rails arranged opposite each other in spaced parallel relation within said body at its top, a plurality of bars movably fitted on said track rails, stationary pieces fixed to the ends of the track rails, a slidable piece mounted between the bars and one stationary piece, the sliding piece having trackage on said rails, dividers selectively engageable between the bars and pieces next thereto, a feed nut fitted in and held against turning by the sliding piece, a feed screw having threaded engagement with said nut and mounted on the adjacent stationary piece to prevent longitudinal movement, and a knurled head formed with the screw and for operation causing the sliding piece to move on the rails relative to the stationary piece.
3. A case or stand of the character described comprising a counter-like body, track rails arranged opposite each other in spaced parallel relation Within said body at its top, a plurality of bars movably fitted on said track rails, stationary pieces fixed to the ends of the track rails, a slidable piece mounted between the bars and one stationary piece, the sliding piece having trackage on said rails, dividers selectively engageable between the bars and pieces next thereto, a feed nut fitted in and held against turning by the sliding piece, .a feed screw having threaded engagement with said nut and mounted on the adjacent stationary piece to prevent longitudinal movement, a knurled head formed with the screw and for operation causing the sliding piece to move on the rails relative to the stationary piece, and guard pieces at opposite ends and one side of said body and related with said dividers.
