This invention relates to combined crushers, pulverizers and screens of that general class shown and described in United States Letters Patent No. 1,303,097 issued to me on the 6th day of May, 1919, the present invention being an improvement thereon.
The object of the invention is to improve and increase the efliciency of the machine by providing novel means for feeding material in the path of the crushing rollers or elements during the r0- tation of the drum, whereby said material will be directly and immediately acted upon by the crushing rollers and thorough pulverization of the material consequently expedited.
A further object of the invention is to provide a combined machine of the character described, having a material distributing element located at the intake endof the revolving drum and rotatable therewith for delivering material in front of the crushing rollers.
A further object is to form the material distributing element with a central opening having a spirally disposed scoop or cup on one side thereof which elevates the material entering the revolving drum and delivers the material through said opening onto the crushing rollers.
A further object is to provide the distributing element with a circumferential attaching flange which fits between the breast piece and body of the drum and is locked against accidental displacement by engagement therewith.
Further objects and advantages will appear in the following specification, in which similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts 35 in all the figures of the drawings.
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of the combined crusher, pulverizer and screen embodying the present invention.
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view taken 40 on the line 2--2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a face view of the material distributing element detached.
Figure 4 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 44 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a rear view of the material distributing member detached, parts being broken away.
The improved machine forming the subjectmatter of the present invention is principally designed for crushing, screening, and reclaiming gold, silver, brass and other metals from materials while in a wet or moist condition and comprises spaced uprights 5 provided with bearings 6, said uprights being supported on a suitable foundation, indicated at I. Mounted for rotation in the bearings 6 is a revolving drum 8 comprising a breast section 9, end section It, and an intermediate section I I, the parts being provided with circumferential flanges I2 through which extend screws or similar fastening devices l3 whereby the sections are rigidly secured together. The breast section 9 is substantially conical in shape and is provided with a cylindrical extension M which fits within the adjacent bearing 6 and is open at its outer or intake end [5 to permit the insertion of the adjacent end of a trough I6 by means of which material is fed into the drum. The intermediate section II is provided with a lateral flange ll' to which is bolted or otherwise rigidly secured a wheel or pulley I8 around which extends a belt leading to a suitable source of 15 power for imparting rotary movement to the drum. The rear section ID of the drum is formed with a cylindrical extension l9 which fits within the other bearing 6 and on the end of this extension IQ is a cylindrical screen 20, the outer end of which is open, as best shown in Figure 1 of: the drawings. Disposed within the intermediate section of the drum H are lining plates 2| preferably formed of hard steel, and loosely mounted within the drum and bearing against the lining plates 2! are conical crushing elements or rollers 22 preferably pivotally connected at 23 to permit them to conform to the inclination of the lining plates. The intermediate drum section I l is provided with the usual clean out opening and closure plug, indicated at 23'.
Disposed within the breast section 9 of the drum and extending transversely across the intake opening I5 is a material distributing member 24. The distributing member 24 comprises a vertical plate or disc 25 having a central opening 26 formed therein substantially in alinement with the intake opening !5 and disposed on one side of the plate at the central opening 26 thereof is a spirally disposed scoop or cup 21 which serves to elevate the material delivered by the trough l 6 and discharge said material through the opening 28 at the front of and in the path of movement of the crushing rollers or elements 22. The outer portion of the scoop 21 is closed by a segmental plate 28 so as to confine the material Within the scoop and cause said material to be carried upwardly for delivery to the crushing rollers when the drum is rotated. The peripheral edge of the plate 25 is extended laterally to form a circumferential attaching flange 29 and this flange 29 fits within. a groove or seating recess 30 formed by offsetting the metal constituting the breast section 9, as best shown in Figure 1 of the drawings. It will thus be seen that the outer peripheral edge of the plate 24 bears against the shoulder 3| formed by ofisetting the breast section 9, while the attaching flange 29 fits within the recess 30 thus forming, in effect, a stepped joint between the parts. The lining plate 2| forms a closure for one side of the seating recess 30 and said lining plate bears against the flange 29 and serves to prevent inward movement of the distributing member, as best shown in Figure 1 of the drawings. It will'thus be seen that by positioning the distributing member between the breast section 9 and intermediate section I I of the drum and tightening the adjacent bolts or screws: 32, the distributing member will besecurely held.- It will here beagainst accidental displacement. noted that the breast section 9 forms, in effect, a
closure for the open side of the cuponscoop 21.
so that the material will be confined within the scoop by the adjacent wall of the breast section.
In operation, the drum is rotated and the ma-- terial from the trough is fed into the intake end 7 of the drum andwill be directed downwardly by the conical walls of the breast section 9 into the cup or scoop 21. As the distributingv member. is securedto and rotates withthe drum, the materialentering the breast section will be taken up by the scoop and delivered through the central.
opening 26. of the distributing member at the front of the crushing rollers so thatsaid material will'be directly and immediately acted upon by.
said crushing rollers and pulverization of the material consequently materially expedited. As
the material is. crushed, or pulverized it passes,
through the cylindrical extension l9 into the screen 20,v the fine material being discharged through the mesh of the screen onto a concentrating table and the coarser material being discharged at the open end of the screen, as fully.
set forth anddescribed in my prior patent previously mentioned. It will thusbe seen that, ow-
ing to the construction and location of the distributing member, the material is fed directly in front of the crushing rollers thus expediting the pulverization of the material and obtaining better and quicker results thanheretofore.
It will further be noted that due to the spiral.
motion of the distributing member, said member hasa tendency to drain the material, by displacement, away from the 'feediend of the crusher. Inother words, the distributing member acts as a force feed and therebyrenables the operator to feed the machine much faster than would vbe possible without said distributing member.
From the foregoing description, it is thought that'the construction and operation-of the machine will be readily understood by those skilledin the art and further description thereof is deemedunnecessary.
Having thus described the invention, what-is claimed as new is:
