The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in swings for use by children and adults on porches, in amusement parks, etc., and has for one of its important objects to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a swing embodying novel means through the medium of which said swing may be conveniently operated and controlled with a minimum of effort by the occupants thereof.

Other objects of the invention are to provide a swing of the aforementioned character which will be simple in construction, strong, durable, safe, attractive in appearance and which may be manufactured at low cost.

All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference 20 designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:-

Referring now to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the reference numeral I designates generally a body of suitable dimensions and material the upper portion 2 of which is provided with openings 3 for the entrance of the occupants. 40 Front and rear seats 4 and 5, respectively, are

provided in the body for the accommodation of the occupants, said seats including backs 6. The lower portions of the ends of the body I are inclined in a manner to provide foot boards 1. The

45 reference numeral 8 designates a foot rail (see Figure 4) which is mounted transversely on the bottom 9 of the body I forwardly of the rear seat 5. The forward end of the body I is pivotally suspended between a pair of supporting levers I0 between which a handle bar II extends at an intermediate point. Projecting from the rear end of the body I is a pair of brackets I2 to the free end portions of which a substantially U-shaped 5 hanger I3y is pivotally connected. Chains I4 are connected to the levers I0 and the hanger I3 for suspending the swing from a suitable support. Of course, ropes or cables may be substituted for the chains I4.

In use, the occupants enter the body I and sit on the seats 4 and 5. Then, by grasping the handle bar II and pushing and pulling thereon the occupant or occupants of the front seat 4 may operate and control the swing in a manner 15 which is thought to be obvious.

In the modification illustrated by Figure 2 of the drawings, the seats 4 and 5 are reversed relative to each other. In this arrangement the levers I0 and the handle bars II are provided at both ends of the body I in order that the occupants of both of the seats 4 and 5 may operate and control the swing.

It is believed that the many advantages of a swing constructed in accordance with the pres- 25 ent invention will be readily understood and although preferred embodiments of the device are as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that further modifications and changes in details of construction may be resorted to which will fall within ,the scope of the invention as claimed.

What is claimed is:-

A swing of the class described comprising a body including inclined end walls provided foot boards, said body further including a top portion having entrance openings therein, relatively reversed seats mounted in the body, pairs of levers pivotally connected to the end portions of the body on opposite sides thereof, handle bars extending between intermediate portions of the levers constituting said pairs, and flexible elements connected to the levers for suspending the body on a support, said levers and the handle bars constituting means operable from the seats for actuating and controlling the swing.
