Description

A 1936- J. H. GEBHARDT 2,050,943
COLTER GUARD Filed Dec. 6, 1935 Inventor By I i f M x g g A ilomey 5 Patented Aug. 11, 1936 UNE'EED STATES PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims.
This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in guards for plow colters, the principal object of the invention being to provide a guard for disposition in advance of the colter whereby trash, waste and other debris will be prevented from accumulating in front of the colter.
During the course of the following specification other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 represents a top plan view of the attachment associated with a colter.
Figure 2 represents a side elevational view of the attachment applied to a colter.
Figure 3 represents a cross sectional view of the guard.
Referring to the drawing wherein like nu- 20 merals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 represents the usual colter wheel mounted within the yoke 6, which yoke at its crotch is provided with a vertical bore for receiving the lower end of the colter shank 1.
In carrying out the present invention, the crotch portion of the yoke 6 is provided with a pair of outwardly converging ears 88 for disposition between the flanges 99 on the back side of the guard plate I0, which guard plate is provided along its longitudinal edges with outwardly diverged flanges H. Bolts l2 extend through the flanges 9 and the ears 8 to hold the guard plate firmly in position on the yoke. As
can be seen in Figure 2, the plate It! is supported so as to assume an inclined position while the lower portion is curved toward the Wheel 5 as denoted by reference character a.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as 10 claimed hereinafter.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A colter guard comprising an elongated plate provided with diverged flanges along its longitudinal edge portions, and a flange on the back side thereof for attachments to a colter yoke.
2. A colter guard comprising an elongated plate provided with diverged flanges along its longitudinal edge portions, a flange on the back side thereof for attachment to a colter yoke, and means for supporting the guard on a colter yoke in an inclined position.
3. A colter guard comprising an elongated plate provided with diverged flanges along its longitudinal edge portions, a flange on the back side thereof for attachment to a colter yoke, and means for supporting the guard on a colter yoke in an inclined position, the lower portion of the said guard plate being curved in a direction to guard the colter wheel.
