This invention relates to holders, and its general object is to provide a holder that is primarily designed for use on a spectacle case so that the latter can be conveniently secured about the person of the user, or upon suitable supporting means within convenient reach when not carried on the person, such as adjacent to the driver's seat of a vehicle.

A further object of the invention is to provide a holder for a spectacle case, that is capable of detachably securing and supporting the case at any place desired, to prevent the latter from becoming lost or misplaced, and it can be attached to the case in an easy and expeditious manner.

Another object of the invention is to provide a holder of the character described that is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and extremely efficient in use and service.

This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangemet of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.

In describing our invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:

Figure 1 is a view illustrating my holder attached to a case.

Figure 2 is a view taken at right angles to Figure 1.

Figure 3 is a top plan view of one section of our holder.

Figure 4 is an end view of Figure 3.

Figure '5 is a top plan plan view of the other section.

Figure 6 is a side view illustrating the application of the case and holder to a vacuum cup supporting device to be used when the case is not carried on the person.

Figure 7 is a front view of the supporting device.

Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be noted that we have illustrated a spectacle case of the usual construction which includes a body A and a cover or lid B, the latter being hingedly 50 secured to the body in the usual manner, as the case forms no part of the present invention, the invention lying solely in a holder and supporting means therefor, when attached to the case.

The holder in the form as shown includes a pair of sections, one of which may be termed the body section and is provided with a body I having tongue flanges 2 formed on the longitudinal edges thereof, as clearly shown in Figure 3. From the body I, this section extends into diverging arms 3 that have their end portions bent 5 at angles upon themselves to provide fingers 4 that terminate in ears 5.

The other section includes an elongated portion 6 adapted to be telescopically mounted with respect to the body I in that the portion 6 is 10 received by the tongue flanges 2 for slidable movement so that the holder can be adjusted as will be apparent. The elongated portion 6 likewise includes diverging arms I having fingers 8 formed on the ends thereof and which terminate 15 in ears 9.

Due to the adjustability of the respective sections of our holder, it will be noted that the holder is capable of being secured to spectacle cases of various lengths, and when secured there- M to the sections are associated with the body A, with the fingers and ears received by the ends of the body in clamping association therewith, as best shown in Figure 2. The ears 5 and 9 overlap the inner edges of the body A and there- 25 by a clamping engagement is assured.

The body I is provided with a cut-out portion extending longitudinally thereof, and this cutout portion is bent outwardly in substantially V-shaped configuration as at I!) and thence ex- 0 tended parallel with the body to provide a clip II, it being obvious that the V-shaped portion adds to the resiliency of the clip. The free end of the clip is curved outwardly so as to facilitate the application of the holder within a pocket, or other suitable place about the person of the user, it being apparent that the clip will secure the case against accidental removal or displacement.

In Figures 5 and 6 we have illustrated suitable supporting devices, to be associated with the holder in supporting the case at places in convenient reach of the user and when not used on the person. The supporting device includes a vacuum cup l2 having secured to its outer face a bracket including a U-shape portion i3 and a depending portion I4, the latter being directed forwardly to terminate in the same plane with the outer arm of the U-shape portion, as best shown in Figure 6, which likewise discloses the fact that the bracket is formed from a single strip of metal.

It will be obvious that the supporting device can be secured adjacent to the drivers seat of a motor vehicle, and can be attached to the windshield or other place in convenient reach of the operator, and the holder and its case is associated therewith in a manner as clearly shown in Figure 6, the outer arm of the U-shape portion being disposed between the body of the case and the holder with the clip arranged between the arms of the U-shape portion.

It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of our invention will be readily apparent.

We desire it to be understood that we may make changes in the construction and in the the scope of the appended claims.

What we claim is:

1. In a spectacle case, a holder therefor and comprising means adjustable to fit the case and to be clamped thereto, sp-ringclip means on said.

2 In a spectacle case, a holder therefor and comprising a pair of sections, one of said sections including a body, tongue flanges formed on the longitudinal edges of said body, an elongated portion included in the .holder section to be received by the body and tongue flanges for slidable movement whereby the sections are telescopically mounted with respect to each other for adjustment to fit the case, clamping means on the ends of the sections to secure the holder to the case and including diverging arms having bent free ends for disposal about the ends of the case, and a cut-out portion formed on the body 5 and bent to provide a spring clip for securing the case about the person of the user said clip having an outwardly directed V-shaped portion at its juncture with the body to add to the resiliency of the clip.

3. In a spectacle case, a holder secured to said case, supporting means including a bracket to be received between the holder and case to support the latter, and means secured to the bracket to secure the latter to a suitable supporting means.

4.'In a spectacle case, a holder including means for detachably securing the same to the case, a spring clip included in said holder, a substantially U-shaped bracket adapted tohave one arm disposed between the case and holder, means depending from the other 'arm and engageable with the case for cooperation withthe first mentioned arm' and holder to support the case, with the spring clip between the arms, and a. vacuum cup secured to the second mentioned arm for securing the holder to a suitable supporting means. 1
