(el. 11a-259) 'This invention relates to electrical connectors and particularly it has for its object to provide a terminal connector for eiecting electrical connection between a conductor cable and the terminal post of a. storage battery or the like.
Another object is to provide a battery terminal so constructed as4 to substantially circumscribe the battery post when' in the operative position and one that is easily positioned on and removed from the post.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a connector` having an opening formed therethrough and a tongue extending into said opening, movable to cause a clamping effect between the post and connector.
Other features are simplicity and economy of construction, ease of operation and adaptability E to conform to battery posts of different cross sectional shapes.

The conductor cable I4 is secured in the connector I2in any of the wellknown ways and as shown in the drawing, the exposed end o1' the drawing maybe inserted in recess I6; `then the spaced-apart legs are pressed together around the cable, after which the parts may be leaded or 40 otherwise securely bound together so as to make a secure electrical connection.
The connector I2 is preferably cast, and is of a metal having good'electrical conductivity, and since the contact between the post and connec- 45 tor is very. important, special features have been.
. provided whereby a large percent of the post surface is contacted by the connector. An opening 20 is formed through the connector I2, into which a tongue 22 projects. This tongue 22 is integral 50 with the body of the connector and extends substantially across the opening and is shaped to conform to the side wall of the battery post. The portion 24 of the opening is shown as frustoconical in shape and adapted lto fit the post I0 55 as shown; however, it might be cylindrically or otherwise shaped to properly iit posts of various shapes. The other portion 26 of the opening allows for movement of the tongue 22 to and from the post I0 during the tightening and loosening operations. A I
A set screw 28 is adapted to be secured into the threaded opening 30 formed through the side wall 'of I2 and to engage the outer side of tongue 20. When the connector has been positioned on the post as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, set screw may be 1I) screwed tightly against tongue 22 and cause it to hug closely to post I0, and to substantially close the gap 32 between the end of the tongue and the inner side wall of I2.
To facilitate the removal of the connectorfrom l5 the post the upper inner edge of the tongue is provided with a cutaway portion 34, thus forming a recess between the tongue and post, into which a tool, such as a screw driver may be inserted to pry the tongue, away from the post. This cut- 20 away portion may be of any form since theonly requirement is that a recess be formed intermediate the inner wall of the tongue and the side wall of the post to permit the insertion .of a Wedging member whereby the tongue lis separated 25 from the post.
While the preferred form of this invention has been shown and described, it is apparent that many modications might be made x*without departing from the spirit of the invention. 30
What I claim is:
1. A battery cable terminal comprising a connector having an opening formed therethrough;
a tongue integral with the connector, extending laterally from the inner Wall of the conductor 35 into said opening to form, with the connector, battery post' engaging walls; and adjustable means carried by said connector to force the tongue toward one of the walls ofV the connector and against a battery post when the terminal 40 is in place on such post.
2. A battery cable terminal comprising a connector having an opening therethrough; a bendable tongue integral with the connector extending transversely into said opening to forman opening having a substantially frusta-conical shape; and adjustable means to bend said tongue in said opening, the wall of the connector extending continuously around `the said tongue.
3. A battery cable terminal comprising a connector having an opening formed therethrough;
a tongue extending into said opening to form a portion of/ said opening into a substantially frusto-conical opening to receive a battery post; a cutaway portion at the upper edge ofsaid tongue adjacent said post; and means for forcing battery post engaging wall; a tapped opening said tongue against a battery post when the conformed through the connector; and a set screw nector is in operative position thereon. in screwthreaded engagement with said tapped 4.
