Description

Aug. 4, 1936. G. KALENOFF 2,050,097
ELASTIC SANITARY TELEPHONE PROTECTOR Filed Nov. 27, 1934' INVENTOR Patented Aug. 4, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ELASTIC SANITARY TELEPHONE PROTECTOR 3 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in sanitary protectors for telephone transmitters and receivers, and its leading object is to provide a simple, inexpensive, cover for a telephone transmitter or mouthpiece, which will resiliently grip the telephone part and provide a sanitary protection for the user.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a combined sanitary protector for a combined telephone transmitter and receiver, which can be stretched over the device and which will provide a clean surface for the user of the telephone, which will prevent the transmission of contagious diseases.
A still further object is to provide means for simplifying the connectionbetween the sanitary telephone cover and the telephone part engaged thereby.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in certain new and useful constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts, clearly described in the following specification, and fully illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a side view of a telephone set combining the receiver and transmitter, showing the combined sanitary protector attached thereto.
Fig. 2,is a top plan view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view-of the protector re moved.
Fig. 4 is a bottom plan view thereof.
Referring to Figs. 1 to'4, inclusive, I show a sanitary cover for a combined transmitter and receiver telephone set, of the well known French type, which includes the handle 5, the receiver 1, at one end of the handle and the transmitter 6 at the. other end thereof. The talking circuit lines are connected to the combined instrument at 8.
The improved combined sanitary cover, includes the rubber or expansible cover 9 for the receiver, the rubber or expansible sleeve II) for the handle, and the rubber cover II for the transmitter. The entire sanitary protector is composed of thin flexible, resilient rubber, and is preferably constructed in one piece. An assembly opening I2 is provided in the sleeve H, to permit the connecting cord 8 to pass through the sanitary cover.
The sleeve and the cover 9 for the transmitter are stretched over the telephone receiver and its handle, and then the sleeve is stretched and the transmitter cover H is stretched over the telephone transmitter.
The receiver cover 9' is formed with a voice opening 9a, and the annular portion 9b thereof,
which surrounds this voice opening completely covers the face of the receiver, so that its surfaces which confront the mouth or face of the telephone user are completely protected.
There is no likelihood that when once attached the protecting cover will fall off. The attachment is made quickly and the removal, for replacement is also made quickly and easily. The elastic covering also provides a non-slipping surface, for the hand, so that dropping of the telephone receiver or the combined set is not so liable to occur, with the use of the improved sanitary protector.
With my improvement any telephone user may quickly protect any public or other telephone for further personal service, so that the generally accepted practice of providing a fresh surface, completely sanitary, for contact with the person of the user, may be introduced and made genera] with reference to the use of telephones.
Having described my invention, I claim as new and patentable:-
1. The combination with a combined telephone receiver and transmitter and a connecting handle therefor, of an elastic sanitary covering for the receiver and the transmitter and the handle, said covering providing a cover for the receiver and said cover for the receiver having a voice opening, said covering also providing a'cover for the transmitter also formed with a voice open- 2. The combination set forth inclaim 1, the covering for the handle having an opening through which the electrical cord will pass to permit the cover for the transmitter to be stretched on the same in advance of the stretching of the cover on the receiver, whereby the handle cover can be placed in position and a non-slipping grip covering provided therefor.
3. An elastic sanitary protector for a combined telephone receiver and transmitter hand set,
consisting of a sleeve'adapted to be stretched' over the combined receiver and transmitter and having an enlarged portion at one end to enclose the transmitter and an enlarged portion at the other end to enclose the receiver, each of said portions having a voice opening, and the sleeve having an opening in one side thereof to permit the electrical cord of the set to pass through the sleeve, the sleeve being mountable on the set so that one of said portions can be connected on one end of the set and the other portion connected on the other end of the set to allow the cord to extend through the cord opening when the protector is fully mounted thereon.
