R. CARY WINDOW PLATFORM Filed Aug. 27, 1955 y aafvfimvnrron ATTORNEY Patented July 28, 1936 WINDOW PLATFORM Roy Cary, Wallace, Nebr.
' i Application'August-Z'Z, 1935, Serial No. 38,114 2 cla s.- (01. 304-27) The invention relates to a window platform and more especially to a-window stand.
' The primary object of the invention is the V provision of a device of this character, wherein the same is susceptible of adjustment for the fitting in a window'frame so that a' platform or standwill be had 'for'workme'nfor the washing of'windows; painting or repair work to be performed, thedevice being readilyfolded when not 16" in-use-and' when in use will not mar or damage the window frame or the wall about the same. I
' Another-object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein the platform has arranged about the same a guard-to protect workmen when thereon and thus reliev-' ing' th'e' hazardous condition incident in the washing of Windows, painting, repairing or the like.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efficient in its operation, readily and easily applied to and removed from position with relation to a window frame, susceptible of easy adjustment for the fitting thereof to varying sized window frames, strong, durable, and inexpensive to man ufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will 30 be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which disclosed the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
35 Figure 1 is a fragmentary vertical sectional View through a window frame and wall adjacent thereto showing the device constructed in accordance with the invention applied, the device being in vertical transverse section.
40 Figure 2 is a top plan View partly in section.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
V Figure 4 is a sectional view on the line 4--4 of Figure 2.
45 Figure 5 is a sectional view on the line 55 of Figure 2.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
50 Referring to the drawing in detail, A designates generally a portion of a window frame devoid of sashes therein and B a portion of the wall adjacent to the frame, the latter being of conventional kind.
55 The platform or stand constituting the present invention comprises a pair of spaced brackets l0, each in the form of a triangular shaped frame having astraightupper horizontal stretch H and an inclined lower stretch I2, respectively,
one-forming a continuity of the other. Connect- 5 a dly and aft to the brackets at the inclined stretches I 2 thereof are the overlapped adjustable straps M, the overlapped portions being adjustably connected with each other by adjustment bolts l5 so that the brackets can be spaced therequired distance, from each other so that -the upper stretches H can be extended-through the window frame A at the position as shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawing for themounting of the stand or platform in place. The vertical webs of the upper stretches ll of the brackets I!) 20 have spaced holes l6 therein for accommodating an adjustable hanger bar I! which has its adjustable outer ends l8 extended through these openings or holes l6 selectively and carry rubber caps or sleeves I9 for contact with the vertical sides of the window frame A internally with relation thereto so that the brackets will be hung with the stretches l2 abutting the wall B at the outer face thereof and in this manner the platform or stand will be firmly and securely held in place.
Superimposed upon the brackets [0 outside of the window frame A and upon the stretches ll of said brackets is a flooring section 20 it being removably held in place upon the brackets by the fixed cleats 2| and adjustable cleats 22, respectively, the latter being fitted with the stretches ll of said brackets. This section 20 is of the required size to accommodate a workman standing thereon.
Mounted in the flooring section 20 close to the outer corners thereof are bearings 23 in which are fitted by pivots 24 the swinging posts 25 of a front guard frame 26 which is adapted to be folded downwardly against the flooring section 20 or unfolded upwardly to a perpendicular position to serve as a guard to this flooring section.
The posts 25 have connected thereto by swinging couplings 26 end guard frames 21, these being adapted for folding into or out of the front frame 26 and when folded within the said frame permit the end guards and the front guard to be flapped onto the flooring section 20, this being the position thereof when not in use. The end guards 27 when unfolded from the frame 26 and the latter is brought to upright position for guarding purposes the said end frame 2! will be perpendicular and in position for guarding the ends of the floor section 20'the frame 21 being held in guarding position by cleats 28 fitted in the flooring section 20. a I The guards in their associated relation to each other, namely the front guard 26 and the end guard 21 constitute a railing or fencing about '10 the front and ends of. the flooring section 20 when set up for this purpose.
When the guards are in folded or collapsed condition the cleats 28 may be shifted to a position on the flooring section 20 to fasten the said guards in folded condition upon saidfflooring section, these cleats 28 when in this position being shown in Figure 2 ofthe drawing. The hang er bar I! is held adjustablyconnected with the stretches 'll of the brackets Hlby the clips 29 which are mounted in the said stretches H of the brackets. The ends 7 l8 of the adjustable hanger bar I! aresecured in adjusted, position by the set screws 30 carried by the, bar.
The platform or stand when in hung position v affords a safety device for workmen when upon the same and enables the execution of the washing of;windows, painting, repairing, etc What'is claimed is:
a, 1. A device of the kind described comprising a i pair of spacedbrackets each in the formof a substantially triangular shaped frame having a straight upper horizontal stretch and an inclined lower stretch, respectively, overlapped adjustable straps between and ,connected'with said brackets 5 iat the inclined stretches thereof, means, adjustably connecting the overlaps of said straps forsection and-having 'swinging ends, for said sec-1 varying the distance betweentsaid brackets, the
said brackets at the horizontal stretches thereof having spaced holes, an extensible hanger bar selectively fitting said holes and engageable be-' yond the brackets with the inner side of a window frame, resilient sleeves fitting opposite ends of. the hanger bar for contact with vertic'alsides of the window frame, a flooring section resting upon the horizontal stretches of said brackets, and cleats carried by the brackets and engaging saidflooring section for detachable connection of the same with the brackets.
2. A device of the kind described comprisinga pair of spaced brackets each in the form of a,
substantially triangular shaped frame having a straight upper horizontal stretch and an inclined lower stretch, respectively, overlapped adjustable straps betweenand connected with said brackets at the inclined stretches thereof, means adjustably connecting the overlaps of said straps forvaryingthe distancebetween said brackets,
the said brackets at the horizontal, stretchesw thereof having spaced holes, an extensible hanger bar selectively fitting said holes, and engageable beyondthe brackets with the inner-side of.
a a window frame, resilient sleevesri'ltting 'oppos,
site ends of the hanger bar for contact withvertical sides of; the window frame, a flooring sec-;
tion restingupon the'horizontal stretches of said brackets, cleats carriedby thebrackets' and. en-i gaging said flooring section for detachableconnectionof thesame with thebrackets, and a verticalguard foldably supported' onisaid fiooring tionanddetachably fastened therewith.
