IMPROVEMENT IN HOSE-CLAMPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 204,770, dated June 11, 1878; application filed April 11, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, SAMUEL 0. SMITH, of Norristown, in the county of Montgomery and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Hose-Clamp, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my improved hoseclamp, and Fig. 2 avertical transverse section of the same on line :0 00, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention has for its object to furnish an improved hose-clamp, by which the leaks that frequently occur in the hose during fires may be stopped quickly and reliably, so as to save the time required for changing that section of the hose and prevent the delay incidental thereto; and the invention consists of a hose-clamp made of two semicircular sections with interior elastic lining, the sections being hinged together at one side and applied by projecting lugs, hinged bail, and screwclamp at the opposite side tightly to the hose.
Referring to the drawing, A A represent the semicircular shell sections of my improved hose-clamp, which are hinged together at one side and connected at the opposite side by means of projecting lugs to and asuitable clamping attachment. The lug a of one shell The inside of the shell sections is provided with a rubber or other elastic lining, b, which binds tightly around that part of the hose which has sprung a leak, the shell sections being then firmly clamped to the hose by throwing up the bail and applying the screwclamp. The hose-clamp is quickly applied to the hose and stops the leak sprung therein in efi'ective manner, it being light, strong, easily adjusted, and of compact shape, so as to take up little room on the hose-cart.
I am aware that a hinged sectional hoseclamp is not, broadly, new; but
What I claim is- The combination, with two equal sections, A A, hinged at one side, and having lugs a a, of the hinged bifurcated bail B and screw G passing longitudinally through said bail, as
shown and described.
