Patented June 1936 The presentinvention relates tofnew and useof its important objects to provide, in a] single or unitary structure, a combined turlcish bath;
sage table and shower bath.
Another important object 01 the, invention is tofprovide a bath appara tioned characterembodying'a construction and arrangement whichis such thatjthe perspirationfrom. the body may be conveniently I'BCOV! ered for the purposeot permitting adiagnosis to" bemade.
parent from a tion, taken in Otherobjects 'of.the invention are ,to provide a bath apparatus of the character described which will be comparatively simple in construction,-strong, durable,1higlily'lflefllcient and reliable in use, com pact, light iniweight', attractive in appearance andwhich may be manufactured atlow cost. H "All of the foregoing and still further j objects and advantages ofthe invention will become apconnection with accompanying drawings wherein like, characters of reference designate corresponding, arts throughout the several views, andwhereini- I Figure l is a view in side elevation of a bath apparatus or device constructed in accordance with the present invention. 1
Figure 2 is a view in vertical transverse sec- I tion, taken substantially on the line 2--2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view,
taken substantiallyon the line c4 of Figure 1.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises comer posts I I between which side and end members 2 and 3,
over pulleys III respectively, extend. The members 2 and 3, it will be noted, constitute a' frame mounted on the lower portions of the postsi. Extending longitudinally between-the upper portions of the pairs of posts I are braces 4. The posts I have formed vertically therein opposed grooves or channels 5 for the reception of the vertical m arginal portions of slidable plates 6. Further, the posts to provide chambers 'I in which weights 8. are operable. The weights 8 are connected to the plates 6 by cables or the like 9 which are trained mounted in the upper portions of the posts I. As best seenin Figure 2 of the drawings, thecables 9 are anchored to the plates 6 adjacent the lower ends or said plates, the vertical edges of the plates having grooves therein fuljimprovements inbath devices and has for one tusof the aioremenstudy of the Iollowing speciilca I aresubstantialiy hollow which accommodate said cables 9. One of the plates 6 hasjfo'rmed therein a. neck receiving opening II and the adjacent end member 3' has mounted thereon [a head rest I2." q Extending between the" plates 6 and mounted thereon is a hood I3 of substantially semi-circular cross section. The hood I3 is of any suitable material, preferably aluminum, and mounted therein is amultiplicity ofincandescent lamps I4 for heating purposes. The lower portion of thehood I3 isthickened, as at I5, and provided with 'longitudinal'grooves IS in which the side members 2 engage when said hood is in lowered. position. Handles I! are provided on the longi-f tudinalfsides of the hood I3. The reference numeral I8 designates a shower head which is mounted in the upper portion of the hood I3. The reference numeral IQjKseeFigure l) designatesfa thermostat which is mounted in the hood I3.
Mountedinlthe frame provided by the members 2 and 3 is apan from which water and per- PATENT OFFICE spiration drain pipes 2I and 22, respectively, de-j,
pend. The water drain pipe 2I may extend to" Incandescent mounted on the sidewalls of the any suitable lamps 23 are pan 20 and mounted thereabove are oppositely inclined shields 24. The reference numeral 25 designates a slat table which is removably mounted in the pan 23 above the shields 24.
point of discharge."
The hood I3 is provided with any desired number of openings which are covered by hinged windows 26 (see Fig. 1), thus permitting access to the interior of said hood to be readily had when desired for any purposes, such as massaging the subject, ascertaining if all is well, etc. Preferably, one window 26 is provided on each side of the hood I3.
It is thought that the manner of using the apparatus will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. The person using the device reposes onthe table 25 with his head engaged on the rest I2. The hood I3 is then lowered and, if a turkish bath is desired, the lamps I4 and 23 are energized. Perspiration from the body passes through the slat table 25 into'the pan 20 and flows by gravity through the discharge pipe 22. It desirable or necessary, either or both of the pipes 2I and 22 may be provided with suitable valves. If itis-desired to make a diagnosis of the perspiration a receptacle is placed beneath the drain 22 for catching said perspiration. ,The temperature in the hood I3 is automatically controlled when the thermostat l9. If desired, a thermometer may be provided for indicating the temperature in the hood l3. Of course, if a shower bath is desired water from asuitable source of supply to the head I8 is turned "on. The water, after passing over the body, falls through the slat table 25 into the pan and is drained ofi through the pipe 2|. The counterweights 8, of course, materially facilitate lifting the hood l3. With the hood l3 in raised or inoperative position, as shown in Figure 3 of the drawings, a. message may be given the subject. The removable table permits access to be readily had to the pan 20 for any purpose, such as for cleaning or for replacing the lamps 23.
It, is believed that the many advantages of a bath apparatus constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood, and although a preferred embodiment of the device is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of the construction and in the combination and arrangementof parts may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed,
Whatis claimed is:-
1. A bath apparatus of the class described comprising hollow supporting posts, a table mounted on the lower portions of said posts, pulleys journaled on the upper portions of the posts, ahood vertically movable above the table, incandescent lamps mounted in said hood, cables connected to the hood and trained over the pulleys, and counterweights mounted on said cables and operable in the posts.
2. A bath apparatus of the class described comprising hollow supporting posts, side and and members extending between the lower portions of said posts and constituting a frame, a pan mounted in said frame, drain pip'es communicating with said pan, incandescent lamps mounted in the pan, shields mounted in said pan above the lamps, a slatted table removably mounted in the pan above the shields, pulleys journaled on the upper portions of the posts, a. hood vertically movable above the table, incandescent lamps mounted in said hood, cablessecured to the hood and trained over the pulleys, and counterweights connected to said cables and operable in the posts.
3. A bath apparatus of the class described comprising hollow supporting posts having vertical grooves therein, a table mounted on the lower portions of the posts, pulleys journaled in the upper portions of said posts, vertically slidable end plates engaged in the grooves, a hood extending between the end plates, incandescent lamps mounted in said hood, cables secured, at one end, to the lower portions of the plates and trained over the pulleys, and counterweights secured to the other ends of said cables and operable in the posts.
4. A bath apparatus of the class described comprising hollow supporting posts, said posts having vertical grooves therein, side and end members extending betweenthe lower portions of the posts, said side and end members constituting a frame, a. pan mounted in said frame, drain pipes communicating with said pan, incandescent lamps-mounted on the side walls of said pan, oppositely inclined shields mounted in the pan above said lamps, a slat table removably mounted in the' pan above said shields, a head rest mounted'on one of the end members, vertically movable end plates slidably engaged in the grooves, oneof said end plates having a neck receiving opening therein, a hood of substantially semi-circular cross section mounted between said end plates, incandescent lamps mounted in said hood,'a shower head mounted in the hood, said hood having grooves in the bottom thereoffor the reception of the side members, cables secured, at one end, to the end plates and trained over the pulleys, and counterweights securedto the other ends of said cables and operable in the posts.
