7 Claims. (Cl. 15029) The invention relates to bags of the type in side wing l6 and on the member [4 is an oppowhich there is a more or less rigid frame assositely disposed side wing ll as illustrated in Fig. 2. ciated with the main body of the bag which may While the wings i6 and l! may be integral with be of any suitable material. The frame members the hinge members i and hi this is not essential.
5 may be of metal or of artificial compositions or As illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4 the hinge members 5 v of other materials. The main body of the bag l4 and I5 may be fastened by any suitable means may be of fabric, leather, mesh, chain or any such as welding, brazing, or soldering in the other suitable material. The present invention frame members if: and ll respectively so that the has particularly to do with the method or means ends of the hinge members form lugs in the frame for joining the main body of the bag to the frame members. Before the hinge members are put in 10 members. Ordinarily the frame members are place the wing members l5 and ll will be bent hinged together so as to provide means for access upward at substantially right angles as indicated to the inside of the bag. The present invention in full lines in Fig. 4. contemplates members to which the main body In Fig. 6 is shown a member to which may be is of the bag may be attached and which members attached the main body of the bag. This bag themselves may be inserted into and removed supporting member may consist of a suitably from the frame members. shaped wire or other like structure it shown as In order to clearly disclose the invention spehaving at each end a flattened portion i9 procific forms or embodimentsthereof are illustrated vided on its outer edge with a hook 29 for a in the accompanying drawing of which Figure 1 purposehereinafter to be explained. As indicated 20 is a side elevation of a bag constructed in aoin Fig. l the main body of the bag 2! may be fascordance with the present invention portions betened to the member l8 by any suitable means.
ing broken way to show underlying portions. The bag body 2! may at its edge be wrapped Fig. 2 is a plan view in expanded form of a around the member I8 and sewed thereto, or it hinge connecting together the frame members. may be sewed at its edge without turning over 25..
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary side elevation from the or it may be attached in any other suitable maninside of the bag of the lower end of the frame her. At the ends of the member l8 are provided members associated with the hinge and with the holes 22 for convenience in rigidly fastening the member to which the main body of the bag may bag body portion 2| at substantially the ends of be attached. Fig. 4 is a transverse vertical secthe usual side slits to hold the bag properly in 30 tion on the line 44 of Fig. 3. place.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary side elevation of one In Fig. 7 is shown another form of attaching of the hinge members associated with one end member E80. which may be roughened or serrated of the member to which the main body of the bag in any suitable manner such as by twisting so may be attached. as to provide seats for the thread or other bag 35 Figs. 6 and '7 are side elevations of two forms attaching means. While such a construction is of members to which the main body of the bag not essential it may be desirable as an aid in may be attached. maintaining the material of the bag body 21 in The frame of the bag is illustrated as comproper position. 4.0 prising two frame members In and II which may The members 18 and 18a preferably will be 40 be of any desired or usual form. They are here made of some resilient material or at least their illustrated as U-shaped in cross section as more ends l9 will be resilient. When the bag body 2| clearly indicated in Fig. 4 but this particular form has been properly attached to the members 18 is not essential. In general outline they are ilthe members l8 will be inserted into the frame lustrated as forming three sides of a rectangle members l0 and II. After they are inserted and 45 although this form is not essential and they may forced into place as illustrated in Fig. 1 the be made in any of the forms suitable for bag catches or hooks 20 will ride over the hinge memframes and plain or ornamented. A catch 12 is bers M and I5 and may engage and seat themdiagrammatically illustrated for fastening and selves upon lugs in the frame members which are releasing the frame members I!) and II. At their shown as formed by the ends of the hinge mem- 50 lower ends the frame members at each side may hers I and I5. By this means the bag will be be provided with a hinge structure l3. As illusheld in place in the frame members It] and II trated in Fig. 2 the hinge structure is made of and will then be ready for use. two members I4 and I5 fastened together by a In order to assist in holding the catches 20 of pintle I611. The member 15 is formed with a the frame members in engagement with the hinge 55 members I and IS the wing members l6 and I! may be provided. When the bag carrying members l8 are inserted into the frame members l and I l the wing members I6 and I! will take the position illustrated in Fig. 4 and on a larger scale in Fig. 5. After the hooks 20 have seated themselves on the ends of the hinge members. 14 and I the ends of the wing members l6 and Il may be bent over as illustrated in dotted lines in Fig. 4 bearing against the edges of the end portions 19 of the frames l8 forming tie members so as to tend to prevent the hooks 20 from withdrawing from the hinge members l4 and [5. If it should be desired to remove the body of the bag for any purposes such as repairs or for substituting another bag body the ends of the wing members It and I! may be bent back to the position illustrated in full lines in Fig. 4 and the resiliency or elasticity of the members I8 will allow the hooks 20 to be forced inward so as to release them from the hinge members l4 and I5 when the members I8 carrying the bag body 2| may be withdrawn from the frame members l0 and H.
While it may be preferable to employ some such holding device as the wings I6 and I1 associated with the hinges I3 they are not essential and if desired may be omitted especially when the hooks 20 may be relied on to remain in contact or engagement with the hinge members I4 and I 5.
The invention is not confined to the specific construction illustrated but may be embodied in other forms.
