Description
May 12, 1936 H. RANCKE FLUSHING DEVI'CE Filed April 8, 1955 Patented May 12, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFIQE Application April 8, 1935, Serial No. 15,244 In Germany April 25, 1934 5 Claims.
Flushing devices for lavatories, urinals and the like which are actuated by the bodily weight of the user are well known. In these known devices the valves are operated by transmission rods from the platform. Such rods, however, are subject to considerable wear in the joints and further they can easily bend, twist or break so that a certain action of the flushing device is not ensured. This disadvantage is obviated by the present invention by actuating the valves directly instead of indirectly, so that the use of rods is avoided.
Further, in the known flushing devices the platform projects above the floor of the lavatory so that the user always has to raise his feet in order to step on to the platform, the result of which is, as has been found by experience, that accidents can often be caused by knocking against the platform if the user misses it. A further object of the present invention is to avoid this disadvantage and, for this purpose, the platform in its condition of rest does not project above the floor of the lavatory but lies flush with the floor. On stepping on to the platform, it sinks down by the necessary distance of from 1-2 mms into the floor and automatically raises itself again to the level of the floor on stepping off.
A constructional embodiment of the invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing, in which:-
Figure 1 is a vertical section through the apparatus on the line A-B of Figure 2, and
Figure 2 is a plan of the platform seen from above.
Referring to the drawing, the apparatus consists of a box a which is inlet into the floor of the lavatory. A box b which forms the platform is movably arranged in the upper widened part al of the box a and is filled with wood, concrete or the like, according to the kind of floor.
To the bottom of the box a is fixed a flushing valve 22 which is connected on the one side with the inlet pipe m for the flushing water and on the other side with the outlet pipe n. Both pipes are led out at the back of the box a. The pipe m is connected with the water supply pipe of the building and the pipe n is taken up the wall of the lavatory to the urinal, which is not illustrated.
The rod 5 of the valve plate 75 which is pressed from below by a strong spring against its seating is provided at its upper end with a collar is on which the platform b rests. Supporting springs o, the strength of which is such that the upper side of the platform b lies flush with the floor when the platform is in its position of rest, prevent the base plate from tilting. In order to regulate the amount of flushing water, a cock or valve 1' is connected with the valve o and a cock e is provided in order to enable the water to be drained off from the valve chamber when there is danger of frost.
In order to prevent dirty water from penetrating into the box a the platform E2 can be packed around its periphery with a rubber cord 9 or the like. When a person steps on to the platform, the platform is lowered owing to the weight of the platform and the valve 1) is opened. On stepping off the platform the valve again closes automatically. The apparatus according to the invention has the advantage of scrupulous cleanliness and, since the quantity of flushing water can be regulated by the valve 'r, there is great economy in water.
I claim:-
1. A flushing device for urinals which is operated owing to the weight of the user, comprising a platform supported by springs, a spring-actuated flushing valve, a rod arranged on the valve and a collar which supports the platform arranged on the rod.
2. A flushing device for urinals which is operated. owing to the weight of the user, comprising a platform supported by springs, a spring-actuated flushing valve having a regulating cock and a drain cook, a rod arranged on the valve and a collar which supports the platform arranged on the rod.
3. A flushing device for urinals which is operated owing to the weight of the user comprising a platform carried by springs, a box which contains the flushing means inlet in the fioor of the room, and in the upper part of which the platform is inlet and a rubber cord which closes the gap between the platform and the said box.
4. A flushing device for urinals which is 0perated owing to the weight of the user, comprising a box adapted to be inserted into the floor, a flushing valve entirely enclosed within said box,
a second box adapted to be filled with the same material as the floor covering, resiliently mounted within said first mentioned box and in contact with said flushing valve whereby said flushing device is operated by depression of said second box in said first mentioned box.
5. A flushing device for urinals which is operated by the weight of the user, comprising a box adapted to be inserted into the floor, a flushing valve entirely enclosed within said box, said box having a widened upper portion, a platform resiliently mounted within said widened portion and in direct contact with said valve whereby said flushing device is operated by depressing said platform into the widened portion of said box.
