a 1 claim. (ci. zoo- 4) The invention relates to improvements in door bells and has for its primary object the provision f an improved door bell arrangement by l means of which one operating push button or the like may be utilized for operating a plurality of door bells or the like.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
'I'he invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a i rt of this specification and in which Fig. 1 is a face view of a push button mounting adapted for use in an arrangement embodying the invention;
o 2-2 of Fig. 2.but also including a diametric view of the electric circuits employed in the arrangement.
The embodiment of the invention illustrated v in the drawing comprises a plurality of door bells or buzzersl, 2, 2, 4, 2, 2, 1, 2, 2, I2, Il and i2, each of which will be located in one of the apartments or rooms of a building. Each of the bells or buzzers I-I2 is connected respectively a wire, l2, I4, l2, I2, I1, I2, I9, 2li, 2|, 22, 22 and 24 with a corresponding electric contact 22, 22, 21, 22, 22, 22, 2|, 22, 22, 24, 22 and 22 ar ranged circumferentially on a base Ablock 21 of insulating material.- 'I'he base block 21 is also provided with a central electric contact 22, which in turn is connected by awire 22 with one side of a source of current such as a transformer battery or generator. The other side of the source .of current is connected by means of a general Bround wire 42 and branch wires 4i with each of the electric bells or buzzers I-l2 as shown.
A suitable casing 42, which may be of metal, is arranged as indicated on the base block 21 to enclose the contacts 22-22 and 22, and a push buttonl block 42, which may be preferably of insulating material, is rotatably mounted as indicated centrally on the outer face or top of `said casing. The block 42 is also provided with an indicator finger 44 cooperating with a numbered dial on the outer face of the casing 42, asbest shown in Fig. l. A selective electric switch 42 is securedas shown to the inner side .of the block 42 inregistration with the indicator 44 and car ries at its outer end an electric `contact 42 adapted and arranged to be shifted selectively into and out of engagement with the various circumferential contacts 22422 as indicated. The springswitch 42 has its inner end extended to the'inner end of a depressible push button" mounted in the block 42, and the cxtreme end thereof is rebent to form a spring electric contact 42 adapted and arranged to make contact with the member 22 when the push button 41 is depressed.
In use one of the electric bells or buzzers I-i2 is located in each room or apartment of a building and the base block 21 with its associated parts is positioned in the usual position of the door bells therefor, said electric bells or buzzers being connected in the electric circuits as indicated in Fig. 3. By this arrangement, when desired the indicator finger 44 may be adjusted to registration with any one of the numbers on the dial on the face of the easing 42, in which position the underlying spring switch 42 will be in registration with the corresponding electric contact 25-26, so that upon depression of the push button 41 the-corresponding bell or buzzer will be operated. By adjusting the indicator iinger 44 to any one of the other numbers on the dial,
the corresponding bell or buzzer may be similarly operated, the single open button arrangement therefore serving to operate selectively the bells or buzzers for each of the rooms or apartments, as will be readily understood.
The specific form and arrangement of parts constitute a simple and effective Ione for the purpose.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying the invention into eifect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details disclosed, but desire. to avail myself of such variations and modiiications as fall within the scope of the appended claim.
I claim:
'A switch comprising a base member; a plurality of circumferentially arranged electric contacts thereon; a central contact on said base member; a casing on said base member and enclosing said contacts; a push button block rotatably mounted on said casing with its axis of DAVID BROWN.
