APPARATUS FOR FEELING VEGETABLES Filed Oct. 5, 1935 2 Sheet-Sheet 2 l nvenlor A Mz'kelso m Patented May 5, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
The present invention relates to an apparatus for use in peeling such vegetables as onions and the like and the object of the invention resides in the provision of means whereby the peeling may be done in a cabinet in such a manner as to prevent the fumes or the like given oil by the onions or the like from getting into the eyes of the operator.
Another important object of the invention resides in the provision of an apparatus of this nature which is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, thoroughly eflicient and reliable in use, convenient, and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevation of an apparatus embodying the features of my invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof. Figure 3 is a vertical section therethrough taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 2. Figure 4 is an enlarged detail section through a portion of the top showing the cover mounted in place. Figure 5 is an enlarged detail plan view showing one of the gaskets in the opening.
Figure 6 is a perspective view of one of the cups.
Referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that I provide a cabinet including a bottom 5, end walls 6, a rear 1, and a front 8. The wall I is higher than the wall 8. Numeral 9 denotes the top hingedly mounted as at ID on the upper edge of the wall I and the top when closed inclines downwardly toward the wall 8. A transparent panel II is incorporated in the top 9 ad'- jacent the hinge l0. Two openings are provided in the top below the transparent panel, that is,
adjacent the free edge of the top. In these openings are flexible gaskets I2 of hollow ring construction. Numerals l4 denote flexible cups which taper and the large ends thereof are adapted to engage over the gaskets l2 as shown 5 to advantage in Figure 1. In this way a person may place his or her arms through the cuff and peel onions or the like, the peeling operation being visible through the panel ll When the cabinet is not being used for peeling 10 purposes it may be used as a storage receptacle and covers I5 having sleeves l6 are mounted in the gaskets l2 as shown to advantage in Figure 4 after, of course, the cuffs l4 have been removed.
It is thought that the construction, utility and 15 advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.
The present embodiment of the invention has been described in considerable detail merely for 20 the purposes of exemplification since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.
It will be apparent that changes in the de- 25 tails of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages. 30
What is claimed is:-
An apparatus of the class described comprising a cabinet including a top, a transparent panel incorporated in the top, said top being provided with a pair of openings, and flexible cuffs, means 35 being provided for attaching the flexible cuffs to the top circumjacent the openings, said means for attaching the cuffs being in the form of flexible gaskets of hollow ring construction mounted in the opening and extending outwardly from the 40 top so that the cufis may be engaged thereabove.
ARTHUR MIKELSON.
