' HARNESS FOR LooMs l Filed Jan. 22, 1955 2 Sheets-sheet 2 @@@Q y I nvenior 27.- Z1? nii/6?' f /Illorney Patented Apr. 14, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 4 Claims.
of the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is an end elevational View of the loom arch and connected parts of an ordinary loom showing my improved harness therefor.
Figure 2 is a plan view for more clearly illus- .trating the invention.
Figure 3 is a perspective View illustrating certain features of the invention hereinafter more fully referred to,
Figure 4 is a perspective View of an arm and associated roller embodying the features of the invention, the referred to parts being shown detached; and
Figure 5 is a perspective view of a shoe.
Referring to the drawings by reference numerals it will be seen that in the form of loom illustrated the loom arch indicated by the reference numeral 5 is provided with upwardly extending brackets B, 1, and journaled on the brackets are the rollers or pulleys 8, 9. A harness frame is indicated by the reference numeral I0.
Heretofore the common practice was to provide on the bracket of the loom corresponding to the bracket 1 cam shaped pulleys one for each harness frame. In accordance with the present invention such pulleys are eliminated and in their stead there is used what may be termed a shoe I I.
The shoe I I shown in Figure 5 is substantially U-shaped having elongated coextensive arms I2 o which straddle the free end of the upwardly extending arm 1a of the bracket 1, the shoe II at the closed end of the U being secured to the bracket arm 1al by bolt and nut means or other suitable fastening means I3. Adjacent said free end the bracket arm 1a on the side thereof opposite to the side from which the sides I2 of the shoe II project is provided with an abutment or shoulder I4 against which the shoe II at the closed end thereof abuts.
By providing a shoe such as the shoe II the coil springs I5, in contra-distinction to the usual form of harness, are placed through the medium of the shoe in direct connection with the bracket arm 1a, one end of the coil springs` I5 being con- 5 nected to the arms of the shoe II by wire loops or the like I6. For accommodating the loop I6 the sides I2 of the shoe at one edge are suitably notched as at I8 the notches being staggeredly arranged as shown in Figure 5. 10
There is provided a coil spring I5 for each harness frame, and also for each harness frame there is provided a single flexible suspension cable or strap I9. Each strap I9 is` passed through an eye on the free end of the proper spring I5, and the ends of the strap are suitably secured to the top of the harness frame IU as shown in Figure 1 and indicated at 2|. Also, one end portion of the suspension strap I9 is trained over the roller 2O or pulley 8 on the bracket 6, while the other end portion of the suspension strap is trained over the pulley or roller 9 on the bracket 1 all of which will be clear from a study of Figure 1.
From the above it will be apparent that a harness embodying the features of the present 1nvention is of a simple and economical construction.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
1. In a loom, the combination with the loom arch and harness frame, of a pair of upwardly extending brackets mounted on the arch, a roller mounted on each bracket, one of said brackets having an upwardly extending arm, a laterally projecting U-shaped shoe on the free end of said arm, a plurality of coil springs, one for each harness frame, loops engaging the shoe and connected with one end o-f said springs, and a flexible suspension member for each harness frame,
each suspension member being threaded through an eye on the free end of one of the coil springs, the ends of the suspension member being connected with the harness frame with the end portions of the suspension member trained over the rollers.
2. As a part of a loom harness a roller supporting bracket provided with an arm, a U-shaped shoe straddling the arm and having the sides thereof provided with notches in one edge, coil springs, their being one coil spring for each harness frame, loops connecting one end of each coil spring with one of the side members of the shoe and engaging a, notch in the side member and each coil spring having a free end provided with an eye and a harness frame suspension element threaded through the eye.
3. A bracket for harness frames having an upstanding arm, a U-shaped member straddling the arm and secured thereto adjacent one end of the arm, said U-shaped member having each side thereof provided at one edge with a. series of notches.
4. A bracket for a harness frame and including an arm, a U-shaped member straddling the arm and secured at the closed end of the U to the arm, an abutment shoulder on the same side of the arm as the closed end of said U-shaped member and against which said closed end abuts, and said U-shaped member having each side thereof provided for connection with one end of a coil spring forming part of the harness.
WILLIAM J. SAMET.
